Hi all...my 9 week old puppy just spent his first day in the house with us...he's very lively and likes to play alot /////he whines and it breaks my heart but i'm trying hard not to spoil him.....i've noticed that he goes at the wires (chords computers plugs cable ect.)

It is impossible to remove the wires.....I'm afraid he'll bite into them how can I prevent this?

Try getting some kind of wire organizer kit where you can mount the wires to the backs of desks ect. making it harder for the puppy to chew on them

They also have those long bendable plastic tubes with a slit down the middle so that you can place all the wires inside. I don't remember what they are called.

Good advice, also try telling him NO and give him one of his toys to place with.

Positive redirection is indeed the best thing you can do - when your puppy is chewing on something that isn't his toy, or any time he's behaving in a way you don't want. And it works too :)

Puppies/dogs are like small children. It doesn't really work if you just tell them what you don't want them to do, you also need to show them what you *do* want. So yes, when he chews on the wires, tell him NO and redirect his attention to one of his own toys (playing with him for a while will help too). He should soon get the idea :)

As well as saving your wires and puppy from each other, this will also help your pup develop into a well behaved dog that doesn't chew up stuff in your house - because he knows what's his and what isn't. LOL you'll appreciate that during teething and his teenage phases... ;)

When I got Maggie, I secured all the wires to the floor, walls and baseboards by covering them with masking tape. That way, she had to get the tape off first in order to get to the wires so I had time to redirect her to something more appropriate before she "fried" herself to a crispy critter! ;)

OI! This thread hits close to home for me. I had a pomeranian that would sleep under my bed. I never knew she was chewing on the alarm clock cord until she started whining and crying and I looked under the bed and she had bit into it. My first instinct was to grab her, but my husband stopped me and unplugged the clock. She was ok, but never bit wires again. If she even SAW a wire she ran from it. It was a VERY scary experience and have since made SURE that the wires are out of the way. I keep an eye on Shotze to make sure what she is in to because puppies can be very curious. They will eat anything.
You can buy wire wrap...at a auto store. It comes in all kinds of colors. But I'd suggest not letting them chew on them in the first place.
