My Sadie is pretty good but this whining is driving me crazy. I try to keep her supervised at all times. She is never really allowed out of my sight. Maybe this is the problem. When I put her in the kennel for the night she does fine, its the morning time that drives me crazy. The whining can start as early as 5:30AM and continue until I take her out. I have tried changing her feeding times, taking her out to go potty before she is put down for the night, keeping her up late, even getting up to let her go potty in the morning but she whines until I let her out. Any advice to control this.

My advice is patience and discipline. when my boy Jethro was 2 months old he whined in the kennel and in the yard because he was afraid to be alone, he wanted to be in the house with us, but we never let him in during the whining episode, we patiently waited until he finished and then we open the door. Now when he is outside (almost never) he just stand up by the door and he dosen't make a sound . Oh! and another thing we bought him a stuffed puppy for company in the kennel.

I have tried waiting until she stops whining... in fact as soon as she sees me she will sit quietly until I open the kennel. SMH So she knows that she should not be barking and whining.I suppose only patients and determination will bring us through this one. Thanks for the idea of the stuffed animal. I will try that but I am a little nervous about her ripping it apart and the stuffing.

My Sandy did that as a pupppy and we discovered that if we kept her up later at night and played really hard with her for about 30-40 minutes right before bed, she slept better and longer. She loved ropes so we would have her chase it and tug and it wore her out.

Good luck

How old is she?
I bought a dog toy that looks like a fox and the inside is full of ropes. I bought it in Costco, if you are concerned about the stuffing. Another thing is don't open the kennel immediately you wake up, let her be there a little bit, I mean don't let her make the rules. They are just like kids.
Be constant with the rule about ignoring the whining, It took me a month, but now he is a really good boy.

She's 10 1/2 months

I have tried keeping her up late, with nothing to drink about 1 hour prior to going to bed. And I put a pillow in there with toys. I just bout a 'find-a-treat' puzzle toy for her as well. I have tried the waiting game. I get up and come downstairs and say good morning and make coffee THEN I let her go out.

Last night she ripped up her pillow and peed in her kenel. I didn't yell or scream I just let her out while I cleaned the mess. Oh what a mess it was

When Toby was younger we kept a kennel in our room and one in the family room where he could always see us and at night when and if he would wake up, we would tell him to lay back down or pet him to soothe him back to sleep, unless it was time for him to go out. We always keep the tv on too. And he was never put in the kennel except nap and bedtime and if we left. He loves his kennel and we've never had any problems with whinning. I hope you find a solution that works for you :)

Where do you crate her? We put Sully's crate next to our bed and ever since, he is a PERFECT ANGEL in there until we get up to take him out! If she's not close to you, maybe give that a try and see if there's a difference :)
