Why not on a walk

I have an interesting "dillema". My guy will not go poo poo pee pee on his walks. He saves it until he gets home. He can come back from a walk and
the first thing he does is go to the back door to be let out to do his business.
Any idea's on how to get him to go on his walk. I'm afraid one day he'll explode if its an extra long walk.

How old is he?

Winston is 7 months and he used to do the same thing. Of course our walks weren't long because he is still too little, but he would hold on until he got back to his yard. As he is maturing he has become less discriminating and will gladly go elsewhere when he needs to. I think it is a comfort thing...kind of like us humans with public restrooms, we'd much rather use our own

My two were like this too as were many others pups.
I read on here that it's actually not natural for them to go to the loo out of their den through fear of attracting predators to them. They go in the den and mum cleans it up.
Zeb was the worst one of my two, it took him months to go toilet while out on a walk. We were out for over 2 hours one day and he still didn't go, I was certain he'd do it in the car on the way home but no, he waited till we were in the garden and peed for England

Do you use a word to encourage him to go at home? You know like "go on" or "get busy" - then when you are away from home or on a walk you can repeat the word so he understands it's ok to go to the toilet now. Dino could be the same when he was young if we were away from home - the first time he refused to do anything till we got back about 7 hours later - so don't worry they don't explode

I let my dog go potty before we leave I have trained her to go when
I say "Go PeePee" I make sure she goes because
I do not like when people let their dog do its business in my yard
or even the grass between the sidewalk and road, it drives me crazy!
My kids and other kids run and play in the grass and even if you scoop
you can not get it all, its gross.

I know many people take their dogs for a walk to let them go potty,
but if your dog wants to go at home, she has my vote

Mya usually does both types of business on the front lawn before we get out to the sidewalk for a small walk. I like that because I don't have to carry a poop bag around the neighbourhood!

She'll usually have another bowel movement when we get back before we go into the house. She's too interested in everything else that's around her on the walk to be able to focus on going to the washroom!!

thanks for the help. I guess I'll wait for him to get over his modesty. Since he was found wandering around georgia i'm kind of leaning to what Lola's mom
mentioned about the predators.

None of my dogs has ever gone while on a walk. I've always let them into the back yard before we go, anywhere from around the block to several miles. They've held it! They only exception was a 15 mile boy scout hike, naturally I cleaned it up, I think Rascal was embarrassed, he had never gone while on a leash before. When we get home Indy heads right to the back yard just like my other dogs did, it's like he's never had any other opportunity. I prefer it this way as well.

I never have to carry bags filled with anything warm and steamy...eewwww!
