it's not too late

I trained Chance not to get on the furniture without permission when I got him (he was 1yo). Both of mine are allowed on the furniture but only with permission and one of us has to be on the furniture with them. Kind of weird I know but it keeps them from getting on the furniture next to guests who don't love animals the way I do.

We have our furniture, and Zeus has his. We recently bought new furniture for our family room, and Zeus is not allowed to sit on it. Although, he does rub up against it like a cat. The old sofa is now his very own, and he loves it! :D

I've heard and read that a boxer loves to have their very own piece of furniture, whether it's a replaced ;) couch or chair . Also, FOIL is a known deterrent that's worked for some.

P.S. To answer your question about why does he prefer YOUR furniture to nap on? Easy... it smells like you, and you know how much our babies like to be close to us :D

Muchisimas Gracias!

Thanks, all, for your amusing advice! I particularly like the comments about what to do with some guests... Truth is, I love it when Diablo naps in my lap while I'm watching T.V. or reading. Looks like I'll be working on the "with permission only" strategy!

My boys have full run. We have slipcovered couches and they sleep on them all day. We also let them sleep in bed with us. Sometimes I have to push them off cause theres no room. They always manage to find their way back up and between my legs to sleep. When we have company we try to keep Bailey the crazy one off. Sometimes he goes in the kennel. Nike came trained not to get on furniture. I admit we spoiled him and broke him of his good habits. He always listens and moves anytime we ask. Now Bailey thats a whole other story.

Funny.....I just don't remember it being an issue. Mack is 2 1/2 and he is allowed on the furniture *if* we invite him up with us. He schmoozes with me and the cat every morning while I drink my coffee and he sits on my husbands lap a lot when he's in his recliner. He sometimes comes on the bed with me if I take a nap or read for awhile. We have grandchildren who are often around but not on a daily basis. They needed a place to be "base" if the puppy was too rough. If he is bothering them while they sit on the floor - I tell them to get on the couch.
I wish I had space in my family room to have a chair just for him - I would do it in a heartbeat.
Mack is now weighing in at 89 lbs - he's just too big to be on the bed or furniture. But he has cushy, comfy places to lay everywhere he likes to go in the house, as well as outside.

I once had that rule in my house. It lasted about a week, for some reason, they love to lay on the couch with there little heads on a pillow. I have leather couches that clean up nicley, so I really don't mind them up there. they are so so spoiled!!!:) :D
