"He is the clown of the dog fraternity, canines answer to vaudeville. A laugh a minute, lives life to the fullest, a maximum velocity version of canine slapstick. But he is also a sympathetic soul, a shoulder to cry on, a confidante. He is all that is good in a dog. He is of course The Boxer (from the article Canine Clowns by Matthew Cowley) "

Boxer Insane
My extended family likes Bayleigh but I have been told that they would never have a boxer for the following reasons:

1. Too high energy
2. Jumps
3. Slobbers
4. Gas
5. Too strong
6. Mean looking
7. Too clingy

Sidhewlf, you were right on when you copied the words from the BW homepage! I love the breed for all the reasons above and will never have another breed. I love boxers, spit bubbles and all!

My youngest sister was a "purse pooch" kind of gal until she'll fell in love with Goldie. She just never imagined a larger pup could be so loving, entertaining and cuddly. When she's settled she's now convinced that there won't be a "purse pooch" in her life but instead a silly, noble & loving boxer! I guess you just have to know them to really love them (and if you don't bother to get to know them, you shouldn't have one in your life anyway ;))

My co-worker who is looking for a puppy for his family says that he won't get a boxer because they don't live long enough. I wish they lived longer, too, but of course I think that isn't a good reason to dismiss the whole breed. I am thankful for the years that we do have together!

I would think if you didn't have the right lifestyle then that could be a reason. If you traveled alot on say... business trips on airplanes. A small dog could easily be put in one of the carry bags they have out for them and stay with you. A boxer on teh other hand... while they would LOVE to be with you in your lap... I do not think the airlines are too keen on it. Elderly people might not be able to deal with the high energy of the boxers. Some people don't have the time and room. In a magazine I read that boxers are bad apartment dogs. Now I have had many many people on here tell me otherwise. But I suppose if you odn't have the time or energy to take them on long walks all teh time and if you odn't have access to a yard or dog park, living in an apartment with a boxer would be a problem. I can't possibly see me living without one even though this will be the first time I have ever owned a boxer, I fell in love with a sweet girl named Maggie who was often at the boarding part of the vets where I worked.

Completely Boxer Crazy
I always get "mean looking". Or, are those pitbulls? Also people ask why I would want such big dogs--like I'm trying to intimidate other people. I just love the breed--they're like little furry people.

The people that don't like them are usually people with no experience beong around a boxer. I fell in love with the breed after spending a few minutes at my BF's friends house. A lot of people, I think, are intimidated by the way they look, they might not like that squishy face ( a face only a mother could love, someone told me once). there are no real reasons to not like a breed of any kind.

I get these excuses:

1. Too Big
2. Eat to much
3. Are mean
4. They look like pitbulls
5. Poop to much
6. Dont get along well with kids
7. Dont get along well with other dogs

If they only knew!!

I don't like boxers..I LOVE Boxers!

I guess its one way or the other..either ya love 'um or ya hate 'um. I have converted many a "hate um's" over to our side!

I have too! I had a friend that didn't care for dogs at all, but she said the only one she liked was Oscar! They have two kids and I am constantly telling them how good they are with kids and how much fun they are, now her and her hubby are getting one!

The most common reasons I've heard people say they would never own a boxer is;
#1) they are ugly...a face only a mother could love!
#2) they are too hyper
#3) they drool
#4) they are not friendly/kid-friendly
**While I agree their energy level can be quite high, I would not consider it to be so far from the norm of any breed. EXERCISE people...good for the dog and good for you!
**As for the drool, well, even I drool when I see a double fudge chocolate chunk cake sitting right in front of me! Heck, I've even been known to open my mouth and blow a bubble cuz of salivation...geesh! And I imagine if I didn't sweat through my pores, I'd have to pant & drool to compensate! **Friendly?? Love 'em and they'll love you back ten folds!!
**Their faces...a pure work of art. One of the most regal of all the breeds! :)
