Who has a huge boxer?

Copper was at the vet today and weighed in at 92 pounds.
He's not overweight, just a big boy in general and quite tall.
I believe he gets his size from European ancestry. His great-grandparents were British boxers on one side, and I believe German on the other. Been a while since I looked at his pedigree.

In any case, Copper is 92 pounds of snugglebug Great to keep the bed warm at night LOL

Ronin is an EB - German Bloodline's. And whenever we take him to the dog run, we always migrate toward other people with Boxers. Yeah, Ronin's bone structure is a little thicker, but otherwise he looks like all the other boxer dogs at the park. I think big or small (I wouldn't care if they were Red, Blue or Green) I think everybody loves Boxers. They are so exhuberant about life in general, and it's so fun to see a boxer step up and start boxing and shoulder/hip checking whatever dog they've chosen to play with!

It is really great information to know the standard's however. Thank you Krikkit! They really are established for a reason!

It surprises me to see such an impression that European boxers are frequently over the standard for height and weight :confused: There are quite a few countries in Europe, of course, and I guess the dogs vary a little from place to place, but the vast majority of dogs I've seen here are around the 24-25" mark ( = correct to the breed standard ).

Wow and and thought George was a big boy

He weighed in at a whopping 66.5# (he will be three in june) He is 24" (or so)

Your Avra is an absolutely beautiful girl! I just viewed your gallery and my favorite is her sleeping. I have many many photos of my George in just such a pose. I haven't uploaded any photos yet, because I just figured out my digital camera and the best shots of him are printed photos that I'd have to scan. George just turned a year old. He weighs about 85 pounds. He is white, one blue eye, one brown eye, natural ears and docked tail. He is the absolute love of my life. I don't know how tall he is, never measured him, but he's bigger than my other 2 boxers.

Gracie, 4 yrs, flashy fawn, natural ears, docked tail, was the smallest girl in her litter and she's still petite. Put on some pounds dipping into George's puppy chow when he was little, but she'll take it off as soon as the pool is warm enough to swim in.

George was the largest puppy in his litter. I understand boxer puppies are supposed to weigh between 7 and 9 ozs at birth. George weighed a pound. He is, however, the gentlest, most loving, sweetest baby around. George is deaf but he knows when I'm in the kitchen every time and comes running. George has never met a morsel of food he didn't like!

Porter is my 3rd boxer. Got him from boxer rescue. He's about 5 years old, flashy fawn, natural ears, docked tail. He's about the same height as Gracie but only weighs 57 lbs. Even though that falls within the norm, you can see all his ribs and sometimes his hip bones. I'm working to put at least 10 pounds on him so he looks healthy. Even my vet says he's skinny and needs more weight.

I don't care much for what the "standard" is. I don't show or breed my dogs; I just love and spoil them. Whatever makes them special to you is what should be the standard. Avra is one of the most beautiful white boxers I've seen! Thanks for sharing her.

Dukie is 105 lbs. He lost some weight after we got Chloe...runing around and playing withher, butr I think he's put i back on over the winter. His mother was only 50 lbs, and I don't recall his father being overly large. He was the biggest in the litter, and has stayed that way. If I could get his lazy butt off the floor, II'd measure him

[Super Boo]

Boo is huge for a female (25.5" and 75 lbs). We didn't even know that she was big until we took her back to the breeder for an eval. She was 3" taller than her mother!!:eek:

The breeder was stunned that she was so big. Obviously she's not show or breeding quality. The breeder was sure it was the stud dogs background.....but, we got another puppy from Boo's mommy (different dad) and guess what?? He's huge-6 mos and 53 lbs and about 22" tall. I think maybe mom has some big genetics in her background.

I've only seen one dog bigger than Boo and it was a male. By far most Boxers are significantly smaller.

My Fritzi is 85 lbs...her father was huge...you can see Fritzi and her brother (75 lbs) in my gallery. The only thing with a big boxer is you must start training as early as possible so you and your big baby are on the same page :D Course sometimes you don't realize you'll have a big baby till about 2 yrs of age :eek: The breeder told me Fritzi would be the smallest of the litter - when I took her to see her one day she said to me "wow, if I knew she would be that big I would have kept her for breeding" I was sooo glad I had Fritzi upon hearing that

I understand that a more substantial Boxer may weigh a little more, but I wouldn't think that equates to 30-40 lbs. more. Boxers in Europe also tend to be shorter than Boxers in America, which would decrease the weight difference a slight amount as well.

Part of the problem, of course, is that the US standard does not have a weight guideline - however since the standards are nearly identical in all other areas, it's not a stretch to think that the weight should be the same as well. I think the larger problem lies with those who aren't breeding to the standard regardless - and in the US, bigger = better. It would not surprise me if "King" Boxers become all the rage in the next few years, much like "Warlock" Dobes of the past.....
