I'm about to be the proud owner of two, three year old white boxers. Any suggestions on how to make their transition easier would be appreciated. And any info on the the white boxers would be helpful

Congratulations on your impending arrivals! beericon

I don't know too much about the special needs/problems of whites. There are several members of this board who have whites that are in perfect health. Personally, I think white boxers are gorgeous. I'm sure someone else will come along and answer your question, but I just had to jump in and say congrats! What are their names? Good luck with them. :)

I have a 2 year old white female who had been with us for over a year. She has been very healthy (knock on wood:)) and is not deaf. The only advice is to be careful with then in the sun. Their eyes, ears, nose and belly's can get sunburned, and it happens faster than you might think. Our Luna wears sunscreen in the summer (I buy a waterproof kind for kid's.) Some more info. would probably help us answer your questions... Where are they coming from (rescue, breeder, shelter?), are they deaf? Good Luck, it will be tons of fun.

Whites

Hey Julie-
Their names are Abbigail and Ashley. We are very excited. They are twins, one is deaf. They are coming from a very good loving home. The owners are forced to find a new home because of health reasons. We are looking forward to the challenges ahead.

Ailison-
Thanks for the tip. We have been joking about Running around chasing them with a bottle of coppertone. I have had boxers in the past, two will be a hand full but I'm looking forward to it. Anything else you can think of please let me know. Did you adopt? How was the transision

Congratulations! What a wonderful thing you are doing by keeping them together. I am sure the deaf one relies upon her sister quite a bit and seperating them would be very hard on both of them. I am sure you will have little trouble getting them adjusting. It will probably more of a struggle for you getting used to their behaviors, etc.

Lexus was adopted when she was almost two. Lexus was awfully stressed out for about the 3 or 4 days. She did some things that she would never do now. I wasn't hard on her though because I realized she had just been thrust into a situation with an individual she didn't know. The first night she slept on the couch by herself with her blanket that came with her and never moved until I went and woke her up. She looked so sad. The second day she tore up some cardboard when she was left alone. Just give them lots of love and attention to let them know that this is home and that they are welcome. Also, establish the rules from day one. They won't understand why they can no longer lay on the couch, when they could on the first day :)

As for the white - sunburn is an issue, although Lucy hasn't been burned yet. She does like to sunbathe though! I do use a sunscreen for kids too. Make sure you put it on good on the spots that the hair is thin, especially the ears. I usually rub it on her nose, ears, and back. The other advice I can give you is that Lucy's skin tends to be a little pink anyway, but it gets very pink around her eyes, nose, and lips when she is tired. So don't be alarmed if you see extra pink, just make them take a rest!

Good luck with your new girls! You are doing a wonderful thing!

Hi BXR MOM-
THANKS FOR ALL THE INFO. THE SUNSCREEN THING HAS BEEN A BIG QUESTION FOR ME. THIER NAMES ARE ABBIGAIL AND ASHLEY, AND I THINK THEY ARE AJUSTING WELL. ABBY LOOKS SAD WHRN I GET HOME AT NIGHT BUT SNAPS OUT OF IT. IT'S FUNNY YOU REFER TO YOUR DOGS(ONE IS LUCY)MY BOXER (LUCY-LOU)WAS KILLED BY A DRUNK DRIVER LAST OCTOBER. THE GIRLS HAVE MADE ME REALIZE JUST HOW CRANKY I HAVE BEEN SINCE HER DEATH. MY WORK SAYS THEY WOULD HAVE GOTTEN ME A DOG A LONG TIME AGO, IF THEY WOULD OF KNOWN HOW MUCH MY ATTITUIDE HAS IMPROVED. THE GIRLS HAVE MADE ME A HAPPY PERSON AGAIN. THANKS!:)

Devonne, your post made me so happy. We went about 18 months after our Mugzy passed away without having a boxer. I too did not realize how much better you life is once you have one again! Keep up the good work and hugs and kisses to Abbigail and Ashley! :D

To everyone who has been so supportive-
Abby, Ashley the kids and myself had the best weekend! My daughter rides horses and the girls had never seen a horse before.(there are 100 horses and ponies) Needless to say, good thing I also had a friend along. Every muscle in my body is in SOOOO much pain still. The real killer was when they discovered the Goose! We went for a hike and explored MUD. We ahd two very dirty, tired dogs saturday night. But it was so great watching them. It was like when my kids where little. This has been a great expierence!
