As a white boxer owner myself, I have read TONS of stuff about them, what problems they are prone to , etc... I also have a Vet who is extreamly knowledgeable of the Boxer breed. Deafness is the ONLY PROVEN medical condition in white boxers that is a higher precentage than Colored Boxers. Of course if for some reason your Boxer was Albino (meaning NO PIGMENT whatsoever) then yea, maybe they'd have more sensitivities, etc. The Breed is known for being allergic. Harley is white and we just discovered he is allergic to corn, however, this is NOT b/c he is white.
The white coloring in a Boxer is simply that, coloring. Its not a mutation, not a birth defect, not all whites have sensitive skin, etc. Our white babies are simply overmarked.
Sorry if I seemed to vent through this, but i have met Vets who think they know everything about white Boxers and how bad they are b/c of this that and the other, and I was at the bank the other day and met a fellow boxer owner who was very nice, but took it upon himself to inform me of the "Birth Defect" my dog had... WHATEVER. The standard states that Boxers with more than 1/3 of their body marked (or white) are to be disqualified, that and a slightly higher percebntage of defness than colored couterparts is the ONLY reason they cant be bred/shown in conformation. Harley and many white boxers I've seen pics of on this site are in no way, shape, or form, mutated or showing signs of birth defects. Arg!
Anyways, Bail's Mommy, I hope things stay well with your Boy.. I have heard wonders of BARFing and that could help him with food allergies, or Natural Balance (which I have started feeding Harley, b/c of corn allergies) is working really well as it doesnt have corn, white rice, flower, etc. in it.
Best of Luck to you,
Melissa
