i have a friend whose friend has a white boxer. we were at the friend's house (she also has a pit bull), and the friend of a friend made the comment that "oh, these only live 4 or 5 years." i was shocked! some idiot told her this. in fact, the breeder who sold her the dog with papers told her this. it's the reason why she hasn't had her dog spayed yet (the dog is 2). i think i convinced her that they live about as long as other bigger dogs do, but I was appalled to hear about her breeder. on the bright side, she wasn't excited about her dog kicking off and i don't think she's going to ditch her dog when it fails to die at age 5.

I don't think that there is a big difference between the life spans of whites and other boxers. Maybe because whites are thought by some to have more health issues some people think they don't live as long. Lady was 7 or 8 by the vet's guess when she died - she was white.

As for the registration - a white CAN be registered with AKC but not shown in conformity. ABC rules do not advocate the registering of whites however. It's really a personal choice. Rebel has papers but I haven't ever sent them in......

Lets see Lindas white male boxer Remy is 8 , i think and my Lacies Great Uncle Wrecks who is also white, i think is now 9. Please encourage your friend to get her white spayed. I bet she was happy to hear from you that the life span was longer than what she thought, did you tell her aboout this board?

????

of course i told her about the board!

the AKC process in general is an honor system. i could register a deceased cat if I wanted to.

That's just wrong!

Of course, *some* could live to only 4 or 5, but that is NOT the general rule!

Cindy is right, my white boxer, Remy is 8 (he'll be 9 in June)!

I don't think whites necessarily have any shorter life span than colored boxers.

And, certainly tell this person to get her dog spayed--ASAP!! Not only will they not have to deal with her heat cycles, and possible unwanted litters, she will be less likely to get certain cancers. :)

Oh, by the way, Remy is also AKC registered. ;)

I would just like to say it DOES NOT matter what color the dog is, it will live just as long as any boxer will live in a safe healthy enviroment(8-12 years. The ONLY other health problems white boxers have that are different from fawn or brindle is a high risk of deafness and sunburn (as any white dog with pick skin). Tell you friend to talk to a Ethical breeder that knows about white boxers and they will tell her the same thing. I could give her an e-mail addres to a wounderful breeder who knows ALOt about the breed or point her to another message board for boxers where she can here it from everybody if she don't beleive you. Hope she can see that a white boxer is no different then any other color.
