White boxers being mistaken for Pitts

A thread below got me thinking.

When I sent the first pick of Fiona to my mom (at 2.5 days) her first comment was that she looked like a Pitt Bull. I am concerned now, if my mom who knows Boxers think that, what will others think?

If this is a common occurence it will be quite the hassle here in Ontario as we have a province wide ban on Pitt Bulls - I'd rather not get pulled over by the police for not having her muzzled (it is mandatory to muzzle all existing pitts).

Does this happen alot to people with whites?
I just want to prepare myself for when we bring her home.

It happens. We get that question alot with our two white boxers. There are lots of people on here that get asked if their brindle boxers are pitts as well. So I dont think its just a white boxer type of question. I still dont see where people get the that boxers look like pitts. The look totally different to me. Congrats on your new puppy. I love the name you have picked out.

With our white boy Norton we usually got asked if he was a boxer/pit mix, or many times, he was mistaken for an American Bulldog. The coloring would throw folks off, I guess. And of course, we were stopped all the time to be told how "rare" white boxers are, along with all the other misinformation that runs rampant out there among the ill-informed, LOL! of course, I hear all kinds of crazy "facts" about my "regular" boxer from strangers on the street, in the store, etc--so ya never know! Grin & bear it, I guess! Not sure about dealing with the legal issues w/ muzzle laws, etc..guess you'll just have to hope that if they are enacting and enforcing legislation against a particular breed(s) that they know how to tell which breed is which!

I haven't had that problem w/ Brutus yet but i hope it doesn't cause for any troubles. People should be able to tell w/ the docked tail and the face.

My fiance picked the name, she will be his first pet so I let him name her (and i am under strict order I am never allowed to refer to her as Fifi.....)

I don't think boxers and pitts look anything alike either. Sadly, before they passed the legislation they asked the Attorney General to identify the"pitt bull" breeds, and he pointed to a boxer - he didn't even know what it was he was going to ban.........

Oh well, we'll just paint her nails and put a pink coat on her.


(kidding about the toenail paint, even though I did see doggy nail polish at the local pet store......)

I don't think that they look at all like pits. I do see how they can be mistaken for American Bulldogs though. My groomer has a white boxer and a few years ago I had no idea what kind of dog she was.

I get asked that question it seems on every "outing". It doesn't matter if it's just Kilbane with me or if both "boys" are with me. There is a noticable difference when you see Kilbane and Jack on a coupler walking and I still get asked if they're both Pit. Now a days I just tell folks the "little" guy is a Boxer and the other is a Straffordshire, that's what his papers say, instead of Pit Bull before they can ask. The people who don't know the name Straffordshire are not scared, just goes to show name recognition with fear.

I get asked if Pearl is a pit or an American bulldog and I just politely say no, she's a Boxer. I don't think she looks like either but then I don't know the difference between a hemi and a cummins. Gentle education is the key to getting the word out. I have absolutely nothing against pits or bulldogs, I just like Boxers better. I wouldn't worry over much about Fiona although keeping Pearl's nails painted has been a good ice breaker

It's funny that this thread has been posted at this time. Last week my hubby was outside working on the car and a man came up the driveway with flyer's. Ellie(white boxer) seen him coming toward the door and jumped up and started barking. More happy to see him than anything and his comment was," good thing you're outside because when I seen the "pit bull" jump on the door I wasn't sure if I was going to go up there"
So you may get that and people asking if she's an American Bulldog because we also got that the last time we were at the pet store with her.
I always use these situation as a chance to educate and introduce them to a white boxer, usually it's the first time that person has ever seen one. When they leave, they love her!
By the way, I also live in Ontario and my hubby takes Ellie every where with him whether it's on foot or by car and he's never been questioned by police.

When I go to the Dog park mother wont let there kids touch my white boy"buster" cus they say that pitts are bad dogs, which I disagree with but whatever thats another discussion.
