Why all the mess about white boxers? My dog had a litter of 10 and out of the ten 4 were white. Nobody wanted the whites so i just kept them all and i have not had a problem yet.

Hi,
My boxer is fawn, so I haven't experienced anything bad/good with white boxers, and here is some information I read in books/canine magazines.
They say white boxers tend to have more health problems and shorter life span. Also they have a tendency to blindness/deafness. White boxers are not registered in most countries because of this. I also heard another opinion on that: originally boxers were mostly white or checked, so white color is dominant in boxers. If whites are allowed for breeding there soon will be more white boxers than fawn and brindle ones, and gradually white color can displace other colors.
OK, that's all I know about it, I'm not an expert though. There are some people on this board owning white boxers, as I know they don't have more problems with their furbabies than others here. I hope some of them will give you more info.
Regards :)

As a Breeder, we do get white puppies on occasion. While I do not agree that they are unhealthier than their colored littermates, they do have a risk of being deaf. Because of their white coat, they are more prone to sunburn which increases the risk of skin cancer.

No, they should not be registered, nor should they be sold at a profit. They do not conform to the breed standard, i.e. being more than 1/3 white. You can place them on spay/neuter contracts in pet homes. I am sorry that you have had trouble finding homes for your white puppies, as I always have people on my list more than willing to adopt them.

How old are they now? Do you plan to keep them, or are you still looking for homes for them? Either way, they need to be spayed or neutered.

My white boxer lived 10 1/2 years. She was very healthy until her later years when the garage door fell on her and caused a whole series of problems. She was very loving and tried to be energetic right up to the end.

Hello there, I have a red and white boxer (my second one). I told my friend who was thinking of getting a dog what wonderful dogs boxers are. He then found a KC registered breeder and went to view the litter, he fell in love with this little white one which one of two left. He picked the white one and went to hand the breeder 400 pound, the man handed him 200 pound back and told him the white boxers are half price. My friend was made up he later bought another white boxer (bitch) for half price again. He has not had any problems with them and they are in the best of health. He sometimes gets people coming up to him and asking him if the dogs are blind or deaf, he decided he would do some research. He found out that there is a lot of myth that surrounds the white boxer. Firstly all boxers were originally white, and they suffer no more that any of the other colour boxers. I would say to you buy a good boxer history book and read up on the facts, so when some ignorant person asks you a silly question or says something they no nothing about you can politely put the record straight about the white boxer. I think white boxer are equal in every way to all other boxers, perfect.

James, there are some excellent articles on the inheretance of coat color, as well as why some white boxers are deaf & others are not, at the American Boxer Club website.

I can't answer why the debate, Casper is white and he is a great boxer, just the same personality and love as a regular boxer only white. Some are deaf, but you can tell at birth if they are or not. I highly recommend a white boxer to those who are looking for a pet boxer.

My mother has 2 white boxers (sisters). The one is deaf and the other is perfectly healthy. The deaf boxer (Mitzie) relies on her sister (Gidget) to hear for her. Mitzie usually sleeps sitting on Gidget so she knows when something is coming to wake up. Many white boxer critics state deaf dogs are dangerous due to they startle and may bite. Mitzie has never shown this trait, in fact when you waken her she just starts to do the "boxer wiggle". Another problem we have found with the white color is their skin in more sensitive. In the summer we find the flys tend to bother them more. While outside the flys irritated Gigets head so bad she ended up with an ulcerated area on the top of her head (it is healed now). The dogs were not out for a long period of time either. Now their time outdoor has to be monitored closely. In short I do not find owning a white boxer to be bad but I do not believe I would breed them to intentionally produce the white color since it is proven that they are genetically deficient.

White or not a boxer is a boxer is a boxer. I get a little tired being told that my baby is a poor excuse for a boxer, she is only 18.5 inches at the shoulder and white with a brindle spot on her head. She may be small but she would take on a mastif in a minute if she had to. She is a boxer, plain and simple - I wanted her because of her beautiful face. I get a little pissed when I am told that it's OK - you can't breed her but she would make a great pet - she is a purebred boxer and should be treated with the same respect as any other boxer. So, now that I got that off my chest - I found that Jazz is also very susceptible to mosquito bites and we have a cottage is northern Ontario (Mosquito heaven). She was bitten so badly last summer that she had an allergic reaction - blew up like a balloon - I gave her antihistamines and thing came out OK but we now put the same bug stuff we put on the kids - remember to wipe it off once in for the night-bug stuff can have an accumulative effect. We also spray her with mink oil to protect against the sun - She loves to sunbathe-which we discourage for her and ourselves.

Before we bought Megan I thought about a white boxer. The problem I ran into was that the breeders around here wanted more for the white boxers than the fawn and brindles. I didn't agree with that and we didn't purchase our puppy from one of those breeders.
