We recently aquired our first foster boxer, his name is Brutus. He's a 2 year old white boxer and weight around 60lbs (but needs to gain weight). Well, we have a 9 month old fawn and black mask girl names Jasmine... They LOVE each other! THey never want to be seperated...

Anyways... I've been talking Jasmine for a walk everyday on lunch since we've got her, there are neighbors who come out to get their mail during the walk that always give Jasmine a rub down and sometimes biscuits. Well, since we've got Brutus I take them for a walk together. I've noticed that the nieghbors havent been out since getting him. I haven't seen any of them... Well thats not true, I've seen two certain naighbors that are often very friendly, wait in their front doors watching us as we pass by. I waved the first day and waited to introduce them to Brutus but one of them went back in the house like she never saw me... The other just stood there with a crappy look on his face. I was confused about their behavior until this weekend...

I took both Jasmine and Brutus to Petsmart on Friday night to get some treats. Usually when I'm there I get stopped constantly by people wanting to pet Jasmine. On Friday I had a couple of women pet them both and said that they also had a white boxer at home... Then no one else in the entire store came up to me. I saw people going out of their way to not pass me and the dogs, then the last straw was when I was walking down the isle towards the checkout and a grown man passed infront of the isle and said "Whoa, Thats a HUGE pitbull..." I stated that it was a boxer, not a pitbull.. his answer: "well, thats the meanest boxer I've ever seen". I was appalled... Brutus is by far the sweetest boxer I have ever met (I will admit that he's even more friendly and cuddley than my Jasmine). When I got back to my car I couldn't help but cry. Brutus hasn't had the nicest life before getting to SCBR, and it hurt me to think people would treat him differently than a fawn colored boxer.

I admit I am niave about other colored boxers, Jasmine was my first boxer and I had never had the privledge to meet a white boxer before Brutus... I just think that people that dont give this loving boy a chance is missing out on the best boxer kisses ever! I'm going to keep taking him to PetSmart, hopefully people will get it through their heads that white boxers are the same loving creatures as their fawn and brindle brothers and sisters!!!

I;m sorry to hear how rude those people have been. People can be so ignorant. I think certain colors like the whites and the brindles get more of the pit bull comment, because they might be easier to mistake for one b/c of the color. Give Brutus a big hug for us and let him know that those people don't matter anyway, he is just perfect the way he is.

People can be so rude, and notice it's only the uneducated - when someone who owns a Boxer see's a Boxer, it's a different story and it's all kidney beaning and lovin'! I'm sorry you had to witness this first hand!

If you see one of your neighbors outside, you should go up and introduce him to them so that they can see he is just like your baby Jasmine! :)

Brutus is a beatiful baby no matter what anyone else has to say! ;)

I have a brindle baby boy and the second day that we had him, a man commented that I "better keep a good eye on that pit bull". I was like WHOA!! I told him that he's a boxer and he apologized, but like you, my feelings were hurt because he judged my baby. I was very upset, as well, and was crying when my husband came home from work. He pretty much summed it up saying that a lot of people are totally dog ignorant!!! Sorry you had to go through that!

Try not to let stupid people's comments get to you. I have two white boxers and I always get "OMG, thats the hugest pitbull have I have ever seen." People always say stuff like that about my Zeus. I just smile and correct them and go on my way unless they have questions then I answer their questions about my babies. I guess alot of people act this way towards some white boxer because they have never seen one so they are afaird.
I hope everything goes well with your new foster and you are able to find him a new loving home.

I know exactly how you are feeling.

My Chloe is white with a brindle patch over her left eye. She's only about 35-40 pounds at 8 months old.

I have actually had someone ask me if she's a bulldog!!!??? I just replied that no, she wasn't a bulldog, but an AKC registered boxer. Before the conversation was over, the lady called her a bulldog again.

Oh, and another person said "Wow! Is that a pitt?" and I go thru it all again, how she's a boxer. Then, he said "Are you sure?" Grrrrrr.............

It's sad that so many people are missing out on the undying love of a boxer because of their looks!

So Sorry :(

Sorry little man, if I lived close by I would swoop you up in a minite. We are looking for a second boxer. keep your head up we we'll pray you find a good home :)

aaaaaaaaaaaawwww...

I know how you feel. People always mistaked Tomi for a pit and sometimes a bulldog. Blew my mind and finally, I just got to the point of correcting people very politely and walking away. I think when people see the breeds TRUE charisma, they will understand how great they truly are. Because of pitbulls being banned in a number of countries as well as a few states, people just automatically think of them. My friend has THE FRIENDLIEST PIT I have ever met and she has so many problems. I know many people in SF think boxers are pits and think a lot of other dogs are pits because of the dog mauling here with the soccer coach. OMG, they were canarys and not pitbulls. People mistake dog breeds all the time.

I am sure you will FIND the BEST owner for your foster boy:)

You should have a bandana for your white boy to wear that says, "I am a white BOXER!" And put that part on the back of his neck so people can read it. People think they know so much when they are completely ignorant. But as my dad used to say, "You can't tell people they don't know what they don't know." A dad-ism, yes, but meaning, some people just want to remain happy in their uneducated bliss.

I use to get the question all the time about my Brandy. Is that dog a pit? What part of her looked like a pit she was 100% boxer.. she wasn't the flashy type only had a little white on her toes and her chest. I guess when your not familiar with Boxers .. I don't know .. I would have children wanting to pet her and parents saying no thinking she was a pit and would bite.. bite no lick them ..oh yes.. maybe knock them over with that wiggle butt.. she loved kids..

I can honestly say no one has ever ask if Abigail was a pit but she is a very flashy young lady so I think that has something to do with it.. White boxers .. you don't see those to often either so I guess if you didn't know your boxer breeds you might think they were pits.. but I think boxers and pits have totally different looks.. different head shapes.. squared off face vs longer noses..
