Whiskers

I've noticed from some of the other member's galleries that their Boxers have long whiskers. My girl's are quite short esp, when compaired to my Golden Retriever's. Is there a standard for whisker legnth? Are long or short whiskers more the norm? Not that I'm worried about her she gets along very well, just curious.

Not sure if there's a norm length but for showing, they're trimmed off...Length doesn't matter!

Does trimming the whiskers cause any balance or other kind of problems? I've heard it does in some dogs and cats?

Whiskers have nothing to do with balance.
Whiskers are used for sensory perception in the dark and that is probably minimal as dogs have excellent night vision.
If cutting whiskers caused loss of balance, dont you think there would be an awful lot of show dogs falling over themselves in the show ring? :rolleyes:

In one of my books it does say that some show people do believe this and refuse to trim whiskers...

Boy, a lot of threads on whiskers lately!
There is nothing wrong with trimming the whiskers. It does not hurt them and does not affect anything. It just makes them look smoother and easier to kiss!:p
