My suggestion would be, as long as you know she just went to the bathroom leave her in the crate. If you take her out when she cries she will learn that if she cries you will let her out. Puppies get use to the crate pretty fast. Just make sure she has toys to chew on. Also, if she is sleeping in the crate at night, if you place it in your bedroom she will know you are near by and that will comfort her.

Mobrian is defeintly right about not giving in. The first night I had my pup he cried and cried so I let him out and brought him in my bed and he's been sleeping with me ever since.

Bella cried for about a week in her crate. It is heart wrenching having to ignore them! We ended up getting ear plugs so we could sleep. She has no problems in her crate now. Just took about a week, when she needs out for any reason we know because she cries. It is not normal for her to cry anymore so you know she needs to go poo or something. If she does nothing when we take her outside, we put her right back in bed and go back to sleep. She will try to get one over on us occasionally! Little Stinker!
I too have a whiner! I have tried everything, laying next to the crate, bringing her into the bedroom with a blanket for her on the floor, taking her out.... nothing works. SHE DOESNT STOP WHINING! I thought at first that something was wrong with her but I have come to realize that this is just the way she is....

When I started crate training Xena, I read that you're never supposed to give in to whining. I knew I couldn't do this so for the sake of consistency, I would only put her in the crate when I was going out of the house. By the time I got back, she would be quiet and learned that whining doesn't get her out of the crate. I didn't really have time to slowly accustom her to the crate, so to compensate, I dumped half a box of cookies in it, put a Kong full of peanut butter and stuffed her in :D Apparently it worked because now she knows the morning routine is: outside for a run and potty, then she voluntarily goes in the crate when she comes in. Sometimes it just appears like I'm leaving (opening the closet to get something) and she marches in the crate waiting for her treat :D

Our new pup is now 11 wks, old and is still crying in his crate. We ignore him at night and when we leave the house. But when we come home, he starts crying when we open the garage door. I want to get him out as soon as possible because I know he needs to go outside... so what do I do, continue to ignore him when I get home. Or say no, wait a little bit, i.e. couple of seconds, then let him out?

IMO, your coming home after a long day should be a good signal that he gets out of the crate. One thing that I do with Jesse is having her sit and stay then I open the crate and she sits until I say O.K. I just started doing that a couple of months ago she is 9 months old now. So after your baby gets his sits and stays down you can try that also.

I am assuming this is a young puppy? Do a search on crate training. You can also find easy steps to crate train in the resources for boxer owners on www.flbr.org
I don't remember anything but a few pouty whimpers from my furkids. I used the methods explained on the flbr site and my furkids love their crates. Work up slowly. First, let him/her out as soon as the crying stops. Then work up to five minutes in the crate, and work up slowly from there.
The above posts are so true! If puppy wakes up in the night and cries is the only crying I let them out. Then, it's a quick potty out and back in (if you are doing crating for the overnight time.) That way they learn they can cry to potty, but nothing else.

the best advice i ever received was to put her in the crate when you are home too!!!! my vet always said when they're really little like 2-3 months its the safest place for them... and i don't know about your pup but kofi's 7 months and still getting into trouble!!!
