Whining in Crate

The "danger" in letting your puppy cry at night when it needs to go out is that it can learn that crying and whining = a response from you and escape from the crate. On the other hand, you don't want the pup to wet the crate, and at that age they need to go when they need to go (lol) and often.

One solution is to set an alarm for mid way through the night (or two alarms) so that the puppy gets enough potty stops but it's you waking the pup up to go, rather than the other way around. It's a pretty good technique - you were going to have to get up anyway, you're not responding to whining, you can gradually push back the time as the pup gets older till the stop isn't needed any more - and (often) your puppy will go back to sleep more easily as it hasn't been awake crying to get you up. Definitely worth a try :)
