Which dry food is better?

Our dog Tyson is 5 months and we find that is stools isn't forming hard. They are quite light in colour like tannish colour and they are sloppy and diarrahea like - like pudding (sorry for the in depth description)

We live in the UK and have been using Royal Canin as the breeders were using this when we got him. At first his stools were fine but they started to go sloppy. we have went to the vet and hes given us pro biotic to help his stomach but it didnt help much so im beginning to think its the food.

This is the ingredients for Royal Canin:

Rice, meat, dried (beef, pork)*, poultry meal, animal fat, maize flour, minerals, animal protein (hydrolysed), corn gluten feed, beet pulp, vegetable fibres, corn, vegetable, dried pork, soybean oil, fish oil, psyllium (psyllium and shells), fructo-oligosaccharides, yeast hydrolyzate (source of mannan-oligosaccharides), hydrolysed crustaceans (source of glucosamine), marigold flour (source of lutein), hydrolysed cartilage (source of chondroitin).

Im not sure if the US have this brand.. would you consider this to be a premium quality food?

I am going to change his food as i don't think it is working well with him.

would you say this is a better, healthier option for him?

Royal Canine is not a good food. Definitely not a premium dog food. I looked at the link you provided, it seems a little grain heavy.
Many people on BW like Taste of the Wild, I think it is available in the UK
Pet Supplies, Pet Food, Dog Food, Cat Food and Pet Accessories at Zooplus

You could also check Dog Food Analysis - Reviews of kibble and see if any of the other 5 or 6 star foods are available in the UK.
I believe Royal Canine is rated 2 stars (out of 6).

When you look at dogfoodanalysis.com, any food rated 4 to 6 would be good for you. It will take trial and error to find a food that works for your puppy. I have feed my Tyson everything from Blue Buffalo, Wellness, and Natural Balance but Orijen works the best for him. I typically rotate between the Orijen flavors. I have decided to try Taste of the Wild. I brought the High Prairie Canine formula and started the transition yesterday.

When you decide on a food for your puppy, remember to transition to the new food slowly over a 7 to 10 day period.

I attached a link to the company that makes Acana and Orijin. I feed my dogs Acana, and they are doing super. The poop is good, they don't have runny poop at all. Their coats are shiny and they smell better and they love the food. The food is made in Canada, and all the ingredients are from Canada. They claim to use organic and free run meat. I highly recommend it. I would stay away from Royal Canine. It is not good food. Stay away from food with rice in it, especially if it is the second ingredient. If you can get Acana or Orijin give it a try.

I don't have a lot of experience as this is my first boxer but he's eating Acana puppy/junior and doing well....nice formed poops that aren't too hard or soft. It's rated 4 but most of the other Acana foods are 5. Origen is made by the same company , it has more protein. I live about 30 minutes from Champion Foods and I can tell you that Acana/Origen is in very high demand here!!

Thanks everyone for the input! we have went for taste of the wild.. the pacific one.. i think thats the name. I have went on to the website zooplus as suggested and found they have the other ranges in there.

It got worst for tyson yesterday.. he had diarrahea in his crate when he was sleeping, poor wee thing got a fright. Will keep everyone posted in how he gets on!

it is rated 4 because there is a lot of protein, and puppies don't need that much. i live in Nova Scotia, and I use Acana, it is very good food. I love that it is totally produced in Canada. I don't feed my dogs anything unless made in Canada.

I have been using Acana for two years now and my two love it! I rotate the three bags and top the dry with a little good 5 or 6 star wet food. They don't eat our leftovers but I will scramble an egg for them or treat them with some cooked chicken breast once in a while.I have never had any trouble with allergies or loose stool...their coats are always nice and shiny!

Update: Tyson have been doing well with TOTW pacific stream, stools firmed up and more darker colour.

We can only get TOTW only online at zooplus. His bag is nearly finished so I was disappointed to find out that they ran out of stock for that flavour. I bought him the wetlands canine version as i have heard high prairie has a higher protein level. Can we just give it to him straight when his other bag is finished, or do we have to transition him into it?

He is 6 months today, so is it still bad for him to have that high protein at this age. i would prefer to have him back on the pacific stream when that bag is done.

It is OK to have your boy on a high protein diet. I had my Tyson on Orijen 6 Fish at that age. The calicum % is the main issue, not the protein. For your boy, you want a level below 2%; the lower, the better.
