Completely Boxer Crazy
Gazou came from a reputable breeder in Ontario. Too make a long story short, after the original breeder we wanted a puppy from didn't end up having one for us she referred us to a few other breeders. One of which had a litter coming up, but already had people in line for her puppies, nevertheless she asked us to keep in touch, we did and wouldn't you know it she contacted me a few weeks after the litter was born and said she had a boy available.
She offered us Gazou on the condition that we show him if he turned out. She had gotten quite a good reference from our original breeder. Unfortunately, Gazou's testies stay well hidden upstairs, but that's ok our original purpose was for a good pet puppy from a good breeder.
originally posted by MacFishLike you, I didn't realize the troubles you may run into when buying from byb's. I thought people that bought registered dogs were suckers. I wasn't going to show my dog so who cares if he has papers.
I have heard this so many times! I know of people who have paid $800 for a puppy from unknown origins and no health testing, because they didn't want to show and/or didn't want to wait for a puppy to be available wanted one right away. The other thing I have found is a lot of people will disagree with the fact that a breeder will interview you and won't sell you a puppy if they don't feel your are right for one. A lot of people feel that if they have the money to buy one, they should be able to get one no question asked.
To quote from a breeders website:
Please remember that owning a dog is a privilege and a responsibility. It is up to us all to ensure that we don’t abuse this privilege lest it be denied us in the future. We must realize our responsibilities and not neglect them. Every living thing has the God given right to expect the same love and care that you expect for yourself.

Breeders

My first boxer was given to us for $15.00. She was the last in the litter because a 13 year boy came to get her and his Mom made him take her back. She was 95% boxer and had all the boxer traits. She was the best $15.00 we ever spent!! After she passed from boxer cardiomyopathy we knew we wanted another boxer so we looked in the paper and found a litter about an hour and a half away. I told my skin kids if I did not feel right about the situation then we would look elsewhere. We pulled up and right away I got the heebie jeebies. The puppies were all on the front porch and slept in dirt. There were two litters from two different dogs. I felt that the puppies looked malnutritioned and did not have that beautiful boxer appearance. After spending an hour there we left with no puppy. I told my family that I was going to find a reputable breeder. Luckily I was given a name of someone who has breeded and handled boxersfor 17 years. Coincidentally there was a dog show below Atlanta that I went to by myself and found this breeder. She was unsure if she was going to sell her female because of breeding. I spent two hours in her RV in the parking lot and played with her absolutely beautiful healthy puppies. She knew I had just lost mine and wanted another one for a family pet. Two weeks later she decided to sell her to us. I am glad I went that route. It was alot more money than the first but she is well worth it. I do think that any dog you find you will fall in love with. It was just more reasurring to get her from a reputable breeder this time around. The Liles Family

Boxer Insane
I adopted Tae through non-Boxer rescue before I knew about BYBs. I discovered BW about a week later and immediately suspected she came from a BYB--she has dew claws and a natural tail. I've had Tae for 3 mos now and actually spoke to her first owner last week. She confirmed that my Boxer girl came from a guy who bred his female and her little had three female pups (a white girl and two fawn girls) "just for the heck of it." In fact, she also told me she picked Tae up at 6 weeks b/c the guy didn't want his kids getting attached to the pups. So much for being responsible!

Knowing what I've learned re the importance of health testing, I feel a little nervous that Tae could get cancer or have cardiac problems before old age (at which point I would consider that normal). Right now, though, she's 16 mos (today!) and a kidney beaning fool :D

Boxer Booster
Vixen came from a breeder about 1 hour away - wonderful woman who takes great care of her dogs. Her Mom was CKC and her dad was AKC and CKC. (Didn't think this was a BYB as she did come with papers, even though she works out of her home.) We would definately deal with her again, as Vixen has such a good temper, is the perfect size (Mom and Dad weren't too big or too small, either) and perfect health. Of course, we got her for a companion, and not to show. We actually did go see a breeder that sells "show boxers" at $600 per pup, (about 2X's Vixen's "price" but her pups were kind of anxious, and didn't seem well kept.

Boxer Buddy
:) We were really lucky, i was in touch with a reputable breeder, in Wales, but unfortunately she had found homes for them all.[unfortunate for us] then we heard she had a time waster and that she had one puppy left after all, so we dashed 250miles from our home, and promptly fell in love with our 4 legged poo machine, he was everything we wanted, and feel so lucky Weazley was meant to be with us
