Where you got your boxer

I was reading through some threads and noticed that a lot more people than I would've guessed have gotten their pups from bybs. I am really new to boxerworld and have benefited greatly from the wealth of information on this website. Before coming on here, I don't think I would've realized the true importance of finding a reputable breeder. So...not judging anyone of course (who am I to judge!), I was wondering how many of you got your pups from bybs and how many from reputable breeders that health test. What factors steered you in the direction that you went. This is a curiousity thing, not meant to start any debates.

We found our breeder in the newspaper. She actually breeds to show so they're all health tested.

I was very impressed with her set up. She is also affiliated with a number of big name breeders in our area.

We went back to her for our 2nd puppy too.

I found Bubba sleeping on my porch, he was about 8 weeks old & very, very sick, it was Saturday night & he looked like he was about to die, I stupidly took him to the animal emergency vet thinking they would just take care of him. They qickly told me I was financially responsible so I thought I'll try & get him well & give him away, that was 8 years ago!

Allie was our first. We were living in S.C. at the time and it was the heat of the summer. We ventured out to this huge flea market we'd heard about and saw rows and rows of caged animals for sale. Man, even thinking about it now feels horrible. The conditions were harsh to say the least. I told the guy if he knocked $50 off the price we'd pay cash right then and there. When we got that poor thing home she was so thirsty and hungry. It took many vet visits to get her healthy, and that was 3 wonderful years ago.

So, now it's 6 months later and we're getting ready to move to Texas. My husband was just snooping around Yahoo and found a boxer in our area that a couple had been trying to give away (he was still intact and had papers) and they were taking him to the pound soon. We hated to think that someone would get him just to breed him. We met them that night in a park with Allie. That was 2 1/2 years ago.

Our friend had a litter...

Our friend, Paul, had 2 boxers he tried to mate for 3 years. I guess the pressure was too much for Bud, because it didn't "take" until Paul went out of town. Next thing you know, *poof* Charlie (the mom) had a litter of 13. Belle is our baby.

Another good friend of ours in Ohio ran a boxer rescue out of his home. He had anywhere from 2 to 6 dogs with him at all times. We fell in love with the breed (of course) immediately, and planned to get a resuce from him one day. Unfortunately, we had to move to Kalamazoo, MI and never had a chance to get one of his dogs. But we always planned for a boxer one day.

i got zeus from a guy that my sister is friends w/ in san antonio. the lady taking care of zeus' mom and siblings was a witch...she was just going through a divorce (ex left her because she had a drinking problem). zeus' parents did not belong to this woman, they belonged to her soon-to-be-ex-husband (my sister's friend). the ex-husband let her take care of the zeus' mom and siblings, thinking she would be good to them. well, she, of course, was just in it for the money. she sold them all at about 3-4 weeks old, mine was the last one w/the mom, my sister picked him up at 5 weeks old. i was the first one to pick from that litter too; i took pictures of the puppy that i chose and his littermates. when i finally picked up zeus from my sister, we compared pictures and we found out she gave my actual pick away. i got a different dog. well i'm absolutely in love w/my dog...i wouldn't trade him for the world...but i was ready to go back and mess that woman's world up!!

Tunney came from a reputable breeder in Saskatoon, Sk Canada. We searched the internet for months and talked to many breeders. We originally spoke to a breeder in Alberta, Bowmak's Boxers, they have produced many champions, but the litter we were hoping to get a puppy from produced only two and they were both show quality so we were SOL as the breeder decided to keep both. A couple of months later she contacted us about a white boxer available from a breeder that she highly recommended, Minnetonka Boxers, and we flew Tunney out here immediately after oogling over email pictures. I guess we wanted a registered puppy just to feel reassured of good health and proper rearing.

Boxer Insane
Ronin came from a breeder in Ontario Canada. We had two BYB boxers until about a year ago - they both died within a month of each other at the age of about seven years. In light of that, I didn't even want another Boxer. Thankfully my husband grew up with this breed, so it really wasn't a question for him of what kind of dog to get. So I dove into researching the breed/breeders on the internet only looking at the one's that performed health testing and supplied Pedigree's for puppy & parents, etc. We could only look at email pictures of the puppies too. We talked on the phone with the breeder for about four months before the puppies were born (we were put onto a waitlist for a puppy). She then got to know us and chose the puppy for us based on temperament and our lifestyle. The pup was flown to Vancouver BC and we drove him home!

My first boxer, Kianna, was from a family in the area that had two boxers (one was a rescue) that had puppies. I don't know whether they would be considered a byb because this was their first litter and they weren't doing it for the money. They sold Kianna for $200.00 and she had already been docked and had her first shots. Anyway, this was 2 1/2 years ago and I didn't know anything about byb's at that time. I got Giguere 9 months ago from a breeder (she said her husband had been breeding boxers for twenty years) but they didn't do health testing, etc. and since joining Boxerworld, I would now consider them a byb. I paid $1,000 for him. Okay, put a dunce cap on me. He is a sweetie though. Once I saw him, I couldn't resist. The next time I will definitely find a reputable breeder who does all the health testing, etc. because I now know better. Regardless, I love them both and wouldn't change the course of history!
