In my earlier posts, I have mentioned that my wife and I have recently purchased a new female boxer baby from a breeder. We currently have a 3 year old female that sleeps where ever she wants to, meaning its moslty in the bed with us. We plan on setting their two crates in one of our spare bedrooms for when we are gone to work or out of the house. Where should the boxer baby sleep for the first few weeks when its night-night time? In time we want them to be able to sleep where ever they want to at night? We have a king size bed!

Thanks,
Brent

We have a three year old and a 9 week old boy. At first Jazzy always slept or should I say hogged our bed! When we got Logan we wanted him to sleep in his crate at night because there just isn't room on our bed for us and two big dogs. Well, I work nights and would get home in the morning to find that there was NO room in my bed for me because my boyfriend and BOTH dogs were in the bed!! Once you let them up there once expect them to be there all the time!! Now he freaks out if I put him in the crate at night when we go to bed, so guess where he sleeps??!!
And.....it's so crowded that Jazzy doesn't even sleep on our bed anymore....she prefers to sleep in her crate at night now!!!
It's up to you where you want them to sleep. Logan has not peed on our bed and hopefully he won't, Jazzy did when she was a baby. If you can handle boxer bums in your face and sleeping around dogs then I'm sure they would love to be in your bed with you too!!

I started Madchen out next to our bed, that way if she cried I could put my hand down and she knew I was there and went back to sleep after about a week we moved her crate out into the livingroom and that is where she sleeps at night now. Does your 3 yr. old stay crated while you are gone or does she have the run of the house? If she has the run of the house you will have a hard time getting her to stay in a crate. I have always kept the crates out where they feel like they are part of the family not put in a seperate bedroom, but that's the way I have done it everyone does it different.

Some more info...

Kasie does not have free run of the house when we are gone! We have tried numerous times to give her that chance, but always after a few days she does something in the house (peeing on the carpet, or pooping, or chewing on a cushion). We keep her in a spare room that she should feel that is her room. Their is a full size bed in there and a TV that we leave on for her when she is in her crate. We have decided we are going to move Kasie into another bedroom (with a TV) that is bigger and will allow us to keep both crates next to each other.

The first weeks I brought Cayenne home she started out in her crate. Then she would wake up about every 2 hours to go potty. So I eventually moved her into the bed. Then she began making it through the night at about 4 months so I moved her back into the crate. Then at 7 or 8 months I had her back in bed. She is getting a new brother or sister in the Spring so I am not sure if I will start her back into the crate a few weeks before the little one comes home or not. :)

I am a firm believer in using the crate for bedtime while they are pups. Once your boxer is old enough to be trusted then give he or she the freedom to sleep whether it'll be a bed or couch. Just my opinion, everyone has their own preference. Good luck.;)
