Hello everyone. I feel really silly asking this question or maybe I just don't have a clue. Anyways, I would like to start bell training my new baby but I can't find a store that sells them. I have been to hardware stores, pet stores, and arts and crafts stores but none of them sell a simple little bell. Could someone please tell me where I can find one.

Thank You,
Gary

We used a fishing bell, the kind you put on your line to let you know when you have a fish, which you should be able to get at any place that sells tackle. It cost about a dollar or something. They work well because they have a clip on the end that can easily attach to a string or ribbon. Works like a charm. Bell training is great, just be persistent!! Let us know how it goes!!!

Hobby Lobby

We went to Hobby Lobby and picked up a bell that looks like one of them bells that you would see in a cat toy, only really hugfe; about the size of an apple or so. THen we also bought some leather strands and used that to tie the bell to the door handle. It works very well and is actually kinda aesthetic in an old fashioned way. The bell was about a dollar, and the leather was 2.99 but it is a good length.

Bells

I just decided to try the bell training two days ago and found a mini cowbell at a small petstore in my area. I never expected to see one there but got lucky! So far the bell training seems to be going well..Bobo picked up in less than an hour!! The downfall is that I seem to be going outside more often than I expected since sometimes I cant tell if she is just playing with it or really needs to go out! Remember the Brady Bunch episode when the whole family was sick and they rang bells to get another family member to cater to them? The bells rang every minute. Ha!

If you dont have luck finding a bell, try some of these sites and order one online....

Bell training

I didn't use the bell training with my boxer. What I did do is that everytime before I would open the door to take her out is tap her paw on the door. We have a glass insert so I made sure her nails hit the glass. It took her up to about 4 or 5 months before she was 100% consistant. I know exactly what you mean about going out all-the-time. I could have just taken her out and 20 min. later she'd be hitting the door again. When she started hitting the door consistantly if she was playing she pretty much bodyslammed the door. I figure that meant she really had to go. Now if I don't jump when she hits the door she will start whinning at me. Then she'll start hitting the bells I hung to train my cocker spaniel.

I purchased my bells at Wal-mart. It was after Christmas when they had put the stuff on clearance. They are the bigger bells. I think 20 came in the pack. I hung 10 on fishing line. They broke the line in a week. I then wrapped the line about 15 times around and attached the bells. Everything is still in tact to date. However, Jasmine (the boxer 1yr3mths) will open up the bells to get the little piece of metal out. Got to go...someone is hitting the bells. Best of luck with the bell training!

I bought a bell that was meant to be a bird toy. It is one of the large ones with wood circles above it.

I use a brass dinner bell I got somewhere. Can't remember.

I also use a small cow bell outside.

I've seen lots of bells at Hobby Lobby and of course, around X-mas time at all the stores like Walmart and Target, etc.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I ended up going to walmart and getting some of the fishing line bells and tying 5 of them together. I can't believe something so simple was so hard to find. The only arts and crafts store in my area is Michaels and I was really surprised to find out they don't carry bells. Thanks for the links too, I will probably end up getting something from one of those places because I need something a little louder. At least now I can get started.
