Lenny is about six and a half months old now (solid brindle baby) and he weighs about 53 pounds. I feed him Innova puppy chow, he eats about 3 and a half cups a day, divided into three meals. I routinely add about a heaping tablespoon or so of wet food just to make it interesting, he also gets a few treats, surprisingly enough. He is still quite lean, not at all skinny, but waist is narrow and rib shadows are there. The woman who runs the pet store where I buy my Innova said I should cut him back on the puppy chow starting with this bag, by mixing in adult chow. I said, "already?" She said I should slow him down on his growth a bit. What do you think? I haven't changed anything yet.:confused: :rolleyes:

I think you are waaaaaay over feeding your dog. If you go to Innova's site http://www.naturapet.com and click on "tools" tab on their site, a "feeding wizard" comes up and you can put in information about your dog and it will tell you how much to feed.
Yes, the person who told you is correct. You might want to (i) cut waaaaay back on the amount of food and (ii) start switching to adult formula.
Please check the feeding wizard and stop overfeeding your dog. It is very dangerous and can cause many, many health problems by overfeeding.

My confusion isn't yet dispelled. Here's more info, Lenny just saw the vet, and the vet thought he looked great, this was a couple days before the pet store, so I didn't ask her opinion, but she had no questions about his diet or weight. He was a terribly skinny puppy, he had a huge worm as it turned out and getting rid of it helped some, but he has remained very skinny untill this last month or so. Now he is far from fat , but he has muscle and looks good, nice and lean, but not skinny. He has a alot of energy output as he shares the yard with a rottie mix who loves to wrestle with him hard. He gets treats, but they are healthy and not excessive. The Innova bag does recommend less food for his age and weight, but it also says that the amount is just a guide as their are individual considerations. I don't mind changing his food but six months just seemed very young to start adult food. I haven't been worried about him, I just figured he's going to be a big boy, like his dad, and like my last boxer, Beau Pierre. I have always been instructed that the guide for feeding is the way the dog looks. He should have a waist and rib shadows should be visible. Lenny has that, he is quite lean in appearance. I'll talk to the vet as well, but just want whatever knowledge I can tap from you guys because there's so much boxer specific knowledge here. Thanks for being here.
