Gday all,

I was just wondering if anyone could please tell me when it is a good time to transfer from puppy food to an adult diet made up of raw mince, dry food and pasta/rice.
I have been told by to different vets that 6mths is a good age and another different vet told me 12 mths. I am not a fan of pre packaged puppy food, but if it is whats needed for a healthy puppy I will keep it up. Travolta is now 7mths old.

HELP!!!

Thankyou everyone and having a fine and dandy boxer day.

If you feed puppy food at all (and many people don't) it is generally recommended to switch to adult food by 4-6 months. The biggest growth periods are over by then, and overnutrition can induce a too-fast growth rate.

At 7 months, your puppy is certainly old enough to be on adult food, so I'd say switch any time now. There's more information about feeding and puppy foods at www.boxerworld.com/feeding

I started Leo on Adult food at 6 1/2 months. He is now 8 1/2 months. According to my vet, he said to switch by 7 months. I don't think anyone really knows the factual answer to that question, as it seems everyone I talk to and mostly everything I read, has a difference of opinion. Whatever you decide to do, just make sure you gradually switch the food over a period of time, so your baby's tummy doesn't get upset. Again, my vet told me to incorporate the new food for 1 week, then make the complete change over. But, I went with my instinct, and gradually decreased the puppy food over a period of 1 month.

Good Luck!!
