When did you know you wanted to add another Boxer to your household?

Thanks for the responses

I know that I am going to get 2, but I am still up in the air about getting 2 at one time. After reading some of the responses I am thinking I might wait until the puppy is trained (house breaking, commands), so that it might make it easier to train the second one. Although no 2 boxers are the same, so it may not make a difference, so I did put the bug in my breeder's ear ;). But as I get closer to May 13th, I am going to do some more research, but you guys will most definitely know the outcome!

I knew from the time we got Indy that when he was reliable around the house that we would get him a companion.

After we lost our first Boxer, Rocky, my greatest regret was that he lived most of his life as an "only dog". He loved people and other animals, and interacted with both very well.

When we got him, we had an old female Afghan hound. As a puppy, he tormented the old gal by feigning attacks, trying to get her to play. She would play some, but also wanted her peace and quiet.

Once he learned his place, they got along famously until she passed away when he was just over a year old.

When we got Indy, I vowed not to make that mistake with him. So, when he was about fifteen months old, his half sister, half cousin Ava joined our family.

If this is your first puppy ever make sure to read lots and do lots of research. We got Kobe before Sadie was completely house broken, so no advantage on that end. On the other end, they are best friends!! I don't feel as bad leaving them home alone with each other. Are you thinking of getting two puppies and doing rescue? I would wait til your pups are at least a year old to start rescuing, make sure its what you want or can handle.

We have 2 and our 3rd is coming home May 20th. Colby was very easy to train, b/c he just did whatever Skye did. He squats to pee, but that's fine with me! No chance of him spraying! I think our puppy will be okay to train as well, b/c now he can follow both Skye and Colby. Puppies are a lot of work, but so much fun. I don't think I'd be able to do 2 at a time b/c I'm not a stay-at-home mom. We're home quite often and I work close enough that I can come home for lunch, etc. But I do think it would be easier for you to train a second puppy if he can follow the lead from an older one.
Good luck and congratulations on your new addition!!!

We got Sugar and Ray (from two different litters) together as pups and never had one regret. I hated the idea of leaving 1 pup alone while we were at work and we always knew we were going to have 2, so we got 2 at the same time. They always did everything together and were the best of friends, there were no problems with them bonding with us humans either. When we took them for training hubby and I each took a pup and off we went.

After Ray passed this Christmas, there wasn't even a debate as to whether we would get another pup or not. We struck it lucky with our breeder and had Odie by new years. Sugar is going to be 10 next week and Odie is quite a busy (not so little anymore) pup, we are debating getting a third to hopefully give Sugar a break, though will it mean double trouble for her is the question.

To me raising two pups was the same work as one, they land up being in a similar pattern because you are feeding them etc at the same time, so whether I was taking one out to pee or two didn't make a difference. Maybe we were lucky and maybe getting them from two different litters was the key, but I wouldn't think twice if I was in that position again, it would be 2 for sure.

When we got Dozer we were thinking that was it. As we took him out and about at around 4 months, we noticed that he was so happy around others his age. I wanted to get another asap so the age gap wasn't too bad. I figures why not do all the training at once. So we ended up with Diesel who is 10 weeks and Dozer will be 6 months next week. I am really excited to see them together in a month or two when Diesel is a little more sturdy and able to keep up with Dozer better. It has worked out well for us because Dozer is potty trained and knows several commands and is really well behaved for a young guy (aside from tearing up my yard). So Diesel is really learning alot from him already! All the hard work is worth it when you get double the slobbery kisses! They just melt my heart when I see how sweet they are to each other cleaning and giving kisses to one another, and how they snuggle up and sleep at night! Good luck with your decision!

I am seriously getting the itch to get the second, esp. since the breeder emailed me and told me the one I originally wanted, was available again, b/c the woman changed her mind. She asked if I wanted to change pups, I told her H-E-double hockey sticks No! I was already in love with Cairo lovicon , who is getting so big by the way! But I was thinking it was a sign that I should maybe get his sister. Don't know what to do!!!!

Oh and yeah I have been doing the research:6 books and adding more, boxerworld surfer, Boxer and dog park stalker and have already interviewed 2 vets!
