Hey everyone!

My wife and I have our first dog together named Artie. He is wonderful! We're going on our 3rd week with him and he is 15 weeks old. He doesn't potty in his crate and immediately when we take him out he potties. Now, when we get the sense he is going to potty in the house we take him outside and 9 times out of 10 he goes potty. We know that he's not truely potty trained because if we don't pay attention, he will potty inside. When can I not worry about watching him 100%? Am I potty training correctly?

take care,

Shaun - out

Let's put it this way. Kona is 10 months old and we still watch her 100% ( ok maybe 95% now). Maybe when Arties' a year old. :)

With the potty training, if it is working stay with it. As far as watching him that depends on you. If you think you can trust him try it. Just remember he is a puppy and puppies love to chew. I feel that until a dog is at least 1 1/2 to 2 years you need to watch them all the time, they love to get into mischief.

Never stop! When you let your guard down they will defluff pillows!nonoicon
The key to potty training is being consistent..take a treat with you and give it to him after he goes potty...I still say to both mine do you need to go potty? They will run to the door because they know a treat will follow!
Good luck!

I'd have to agree with Laura. They are just like my skin kiddos... if it's too quiet, something naughty is usually in the works. Goldie is 8 months and I can leave her out of the pen when I'm gone for up to an hour and she's usually well behaved. I don't trust her much longer than that out of the pen though (mostly for her own safety). Good luck! :)

It will be a while. Mostly, Sam lets us know when he wants to go outside, and we're at 6 months currently. However, yesterday he didn't let us know and started peeing on the floor by the back door. He immediately stopped when we noticed though and made his normal move to go outside. It just takes patience. Your pup is just like a baby and will need to be watched very carefully for some time to come.

I am still potty training my boxer but I also have a 5 1/2 month old jack russell terrier. I have been leaving him loose in the house since he was four months old. He is alone anywhere from 4 to 8 hours and has not pottied or chewed anything up. I just take him out before I go and make sure to keep things picked up around the house.
