What's Petsmart?

We have Petsmart here in Canada where pets are welcome. We also have PetValue and SuperPet with stores ranging in size from medium to extra-large supermarket size.

As you might imagine such stores cater to every type of pet imaginable, and of course not all pet owners are dog lovers. So, although dogs are most welcome by staff of these stores, sometimes the other customers can be somewhat offended by our beautiful boxers... therefore, we have to be sure to bring along our patience and sense of humour.

Walmart is very muck like Kmart and Target. As price goes, in my opinion, there is Target, then Kmart then Walmart as the cheapest. We also have Walmart Supercenters, they are Wlamarts, but with a grocery store also. They are great!!!!! Get all your home shopping and grocery shopping done in one store! Most of my money goes there. I like to go to Kmart and Target for variety though, but they are more expensive.
We have lots of Petfriendly stores here. There are probly 6 or 7 pet stores and you can take your pets in all of them. One is a Petsmart. We also have two new dog bakery's that have opened in the last year. They have dog treats and clothes. Those are my favorite places to go!

Wal-mart is a lot like Target and K-Mart. Personally, I think Target is much nicer than Wal-mart and K-Mart! I guess one could compare Petsmart to those stores. It isn't as large b/c it only provides for pets (fish, dogs, cats, reptiles, rodents)--unlike Target which of course has bedding, food, medication, toys (human), etc.

WOW! That all sounds like doggy heaven and financial ruin!!!... But no Petsmarts, by that name or anything else.

Glenys, you need to get out more LOL - Paraparam is a small town, sure, but it's only 45 minutes from Wellington. Try Animates if you want a Petsmart-style store to take your pups shopping with you (branches throughout NZ, including Palmerston North, if Wellington doesn't take your fancy).

we dont have petsmart here but there are some 'pets at home' stores which seem to be the same kind of thing! i love going there and they are very dog friendly!! (pretty baileys not so petstore friendly!!!) when we pull up he gets so excited in the car. they give treats at the cash point and have a 'doggie drinking post' and a bowlfull of whichever food they are promoting (always the expensive stuff so i dont mind him having a nibble!!!) its great fun going there, between all the doggie stuff and all the fishie stuff im in heaven!!!

Actually you have everything right except you can not buy pets there. You can adopt cats from the local humane society there but not dogs in the store, at least at our local Petsmarts. You can't even buy a hamster there. That is why I like going to Petsmart because I don't have to see the poor, innocent little babies waiting and wanting for a home.

They also have pet/owner training, grooming, and vet services. The ones near me don't sell dog or cat, but the SPCA comes out everyone week to let people adopt a pet. They do sell fish, reptiles, and birds. It is always the birds that get Diabla's attention. The only problem is that they sell only the commerical dog foods that have a lot of fillers in them.

Hi Glenys
As Gwyneth mentioned there are Animates stores - the one is Wellington is larger than the Palmerston North one. When I lived in Wellington I used to take Diva in there to socialise as a youngster. I also used to live at Raumati Beach and I am sure that Paraparaumu used to have an Animates store on Kapiti Road, but it closed down - don't know why.
