What's Petsmart?

Excuse my ignorance, but I don't know what a 'Petsmart' is. I assume it's a store where you can take your pets, buy things for them and buy pets as well? Can anyone elaborate-like how big are these stores, are you really allowed to take your pets there? We have very little if anything where our animals are welcome, and all of this sounds so alien to me. Thanks for your help. lovicon

I live in Phoenix and the one I go to is HUGE!!!! Daisy loves it... She knows when we get in the car we are going to get her something... But its like a huge department store for dogs.... If I am not mistaken.. New Zealand doesn't have the walmarts that we have either...? Is this true... I know Germany has one but nothing like ours..

Petsmart is exactly that! They are very pet friendly and Bella LOVES going there 'cause they always give her treats and there are always other furry kids there. I believe that they ship overseas, so you might want to check out their website.

My girls also love to go there! I think they would like to live there! LOL It's so much fun to take them shopping!

In Auckland there are the Jansens pet stores which sound like petsmart. i once saw a doberman in one jansens so i guess they allow dogs in there also has a vet attached to it.

Hi Glenys, Rocky here! PetsMart is HEAVEN here on earth! There are aisles filled with toys, treat, neat stuff to look at, aquariums, birds, crazy hamsters spinning on wheels! I get a shiver just thinking about it! Come on over and I will personally give you a tour of the one down the road from my house, you will love it!

Oh gee Dora you live right by a Petsmart--how do you stand it?? If I lived close to one I'd be broke!! The closest one is about 45 min. away and we use to go every week- now we've backed off to bout every other week--and I still spend over $100 every time--it's insane what I'll spend on Titan but not on myself--(no wonder he's a spoiled brat, dont tell him though)

Yeah, PetSmart is a great store. I've always had a great experience there with my dogs. There are also a couple of Petco stores in my town which are quite similar to PetSmart.

WOW! That all sounds like doggy heaven and financial ruin!!! I haven't heard of Jansens either, would you believe--but living south of the Bombay Hills you could understand that (in-house joke there) And no, we don't have walmarts. Maybe we aren't big enough for these stores. But being so close to Australia and some consider us another state of that country, we are influenced by their type of shops and Malls. But no Petsmarts, by that name or anything else. We do have a little petshop here in Paraparaumu (we call it Pram-much easier) but it's so tiny. I bought my rats from them a few years back and they have fish but nothing else. I've taken my dog in there once and needed to ask if it was okay. It just isn't something we do, I guess.
Thanks everyone for your info. And as much as I'd like to come see, who's rich? especially at this time of year and I'd just have to bring Cini and Zak too!

I'm from Australia and have also wondered on what scale a petSmart store is.... or WalMart for that matter. We have department stores like Kmart and Target which I think are in the US.... is WalMart like that and PetSmart like a pet version.
