what would you do?

I have a 9 month old boy , Eddie. I have been interested in getting him a playmate, and the opertunity siezed itself. I was at a local Cosco, and a person working in the office had a flyer up, w/ a picture of a beautiful flashy fawn two year old spayed female.

I guess he is in the process of moving, but his wife is making him keep the dog outside, while they have the house on the market for sale. I feel terrible for her, here in Missouri, its starting to get hot, some 90+ days are comming this week.

I am moving in 7 days, he said he would hold the dog for me until I moved, because here in my apartment I already have my dog and his cage, I dont have the room to kennel two, as well as pack and move this week. When I do move, I will have my fiances grandmother living with us for two weeks (we bought her house), she has had two knees replaced as well as her hips, so its very fragil having her around my boxer, now I may have to have two!

Do you think this dog (who i have the feeling is not used to a crate) and my dog can be crated in the same room, while we are at work? or is it better to crate dogs in seperate rooms. Eddie is still to young to be left alone, he may potty. The owner of the female sais she is good about wandering about the house when you are not home and tearing stuff up.

I guess I am just explaining my situation, and wondering if anyone has any insite or sugestions.

All comon sense will tell you no don't get the dog, too many chances of hurting the grandma, too much hastle, too much. However if you truely want to rescue a beautiful boxer and get unconditional love, you can make it work. I can't tell you to get the dog only you and your wife can (when in doubt your wife will tell you what you think . Hope things work out.

After you get the dog let us know how it works out

If the female can be trusted out of the crate would it be possible to put her in a room on her own or in the same room as your crated pup while grandma is in the house? If this will be only for a short time maybe it will work out. Please let us know what you decide. Good Luck!

Good for you for opening your heart and new home to a Boxer in need! I wouldn't worry about grandma, 1st most animals especially boxers can sense when someone is fragile. Second, she probably doesn't get around too much so the only time you'd have to be worried/careful is when she is actually up and about moving in the house. Third, if she is unable to get around, it will be great therapy for her to pet the boxers and receive their love!! As far as crating goes, any dog trained or no will be confused by what is happening. I would definately make sure that you have a crate for the new girl, at least for a month or so until she learns her place in your family. An additional crate may be an added expense but it will be cheaper than repairing any damage a confused boxer is capable of.

If you do take this boxer gal, I would crate them in the same room when you leave. I always have my boxers together whether loose or crated nearby. I think it comforts them.

I agree with Adeinert - if you get her, crate them in the same room - I think ours would go nuts if we kept them in their crates in separate rooms when we are gone - I think they keep each other company.

It will be wonderful!

The rescue girl and the nine month old will be fast friends. She will recognize him as a puppy and be his protector. At least that has been my experience. All of ours have immediately been crated in the same room and even sometimes prefer the same crate! We often find them snuggled up together in one crate....all four of them.
