What to feed??

Both my pups are on an active breed Iams food. My main issue is that when I first got Boomer he would scarf food like we were going to take it from him and I figured once he realized no one is going to mess with him while he eats he would gradually grow out of it. My husband thought by now he would be fine so he got him a free feeder (one you just fill up) because it worked so well in the past with our other large breed, however..we left him loose in the house while we were out front doing yard work and this dog literally ate almost the entire container which held nearly a whole bag of food..I feed him consistently everyday and yet he still eats like it will be taken from him and he is 8mths old.

Is it the food? is it just not filling him up? Also, he does the same with water, if I fill his bowl he will drink it and puke it up so I only give him like 2cups of water each time he eats because he is so active I'm afraid of him bloating on me..Any help is greatly appreciated!

I would strongly suggest you switch to a higher quality food. Go to Dog Food Analysis - Reviews of kibble. I just did a search on Imas, it is actually rated as a 1 Star (out of 6 stars) dry food. It is full of corn meal, grains, and other by products. If you pick a higher quality food it might be a little bit more expensive but you can feed less and it will be much better for the overall health of your dog. I feed Evo to my puggle, she weighs 30 pounds and only needs one cup a day. My boxer puppy Sky (7month) gets Taste of the Wild, she eats 3 cups a day, mixed with some canned food (Wellness or Evo 95% meat).

I just thought about how much TV commercials/marketing of a product can influence a descision to buy a particular brand.... If I wouldn't have found BW and doogfoodanalysis.com and done my own research I would probably think Iams is a good kibble, just from seeing the commercial on TV.

Thank you so much! I did have a chessy mix at one time and she went through that awkward state where she burned off everything she ate and the Vet told me I was starving her and she was eating 4cups a day of this food and yet was still very skinny. I put her on Solid Gold(wolf cub) and she put on the weight and stopped eating quite as much also. I may have to go back to that as it is slightly out of budget but worth it..Thanks again for the link I have some free time tonight I'll go through it!

sansal is on the money ~ i used to thing purina was a good food ! .... till i found boxer world - and DFA if only i knew then what i know now , my chow would not have suffered from food allergy's all his life ..:( i also feed Taste Of The Wild , and we both love it ! sam eats about 4 cups a day , he is 70 ish lbs ( up from 61 when he was rescued ) and a 23 dollar bag lasts me 2 weeks - i also add wellness core canned 95% , he still could stand to gain a cpl lbs ( he is a big boy )

You had me at no gas! LOL Because let me tell you this little 8mth old pup passes gas like a grown man! He'll go into his kennel and nap and you can literally hear it from the next room. I'll go try and track that down, I'm kind of in the country so it shouldn't be too hard to find. Thanks!!

I get it at Pet Supplies plus, not sure if Petsmart or Petco have it. I rotate between the 3 different flavors. I started with the Prarie formula and right now I'm feeding the Pasific stream formula and I think after two bags or so I will try the Wetlands formula. I had no problems switching between the formulas, only mixed the kibble for like two days or so.

No PetSmart nor PetCo sell TOTW usually have to get it at a boutique or feed store.

i feed the buffalo & rotate with the fish

go to TOTW website - and inter ur zip code - i live in a collage town ( very nice sized ) and only one store here sells it ! of course across town .. ( pet supplies plus )
