What to expect from Oncologst and Chemo?

Apollo was diagnosed with what may be his third Mast Cell Tumor in Four Month and is having it removed tomorrow along with a fatty tumor almost directly below it.

If this does in fact come back as a Mast Cell again, we are going to discuss options with an Oncologist and possibly starting him on some sort of treatment if recommended.

What can we expect are far as treatment, side effects, cost? What should we ask for questions? What can we expect for results?

Any help you can give is greatly appreciated!

I don't have any advice to offer but I am so sorry to hear about the news. Our dog was treated for lymphoma earlier this year but she did not need chemo. We were devestated when we found out that she was sick. Please know that your friends at BW are thinking of you and Apollo!! Please keep us posted.

I'm sorry I don't have any advise, but I know a lot of members here had this problem with their boxes. Maybe a search in BW will bring any info.

Apollo was groggy when I brought him home last night as well as being quite whiney. The Vet gave me both Rimadyl and Tramadol to give him for pain, as well as 100 mg of Benadryl every 8 hours.

I let him out in the backyard about 8 p.m. because he was whining at the door. He normally barks to come back in, but after about 15 minutes I hadn't heard anything so I went to check on him. He was sound asleep in the grass with his head between his paws. I don't know if the house was too loud or bright or what, but he sure was cute sleeping out there.

The incisions run about 2 1/2 inches apiece, the first starting just below his right ear and running towards his neck. The second runs parrallel to that about an inch away. They are not pretty. He can't wear a collar or E-collar due to the location and we're scared once they start to heal he'll scratch with his back and open them up. The Vet did internal sutures, and they seemed to heal well after his last surgery.

I sent pictures to my family to show everyone and my sister actually cried when she saw them. She was here when he had his surgery in July and knows how much he hurts. He's just been so much this summer that it's tough for us to see this happen again.

Glad the surgery is over. When Austin had his mct removed I was shocked at how big the incision was. ((hugs)) for Apollo, hope he feels better soon.

We're also wishing Apollo a speedy and full recovery. I know exactly what you're going through as our first Boxer Faithy had Mast Cell tumours removed and my two year old Boston Terrier Nyah just had a Mast cell tomour remover about five weeks ago. It's such an upsetting thing to go through and my heart goes out to you and your sweet baby.
