I have to say that Herkie and Kuma were both excellent puppies (as far as the house-breaking goes) but, being puppies...there will be accidents. In my recollection, I honestly can't remember getting pi$$ed off when either one did have an accident. I cleaned the area well, and didn't even bring it to their attention. For the most part, puppies give signals when they have to go potty, and if you ignore them, well..what's a pup to do? Screaming, yelling and intimidating the pup(even if that's not what you mean to do) will NOT work. They need TONS of praise, and eventually they'll come around. Herkie is almost 5yrs old now, and I STILL praise him when he poops!
And to be quite frank, if you're spending more time pi$$ed off now just because of the "accidents" in the home....then what will you do when your pup starts teething, and going through a destructive phase? Cd's, pagers, cell phones, remote controls...anything that's in their reach(until they're taught otherwise) is fair game. I couldn't get mad at Herkie for my mistakes, he was just being a pup. You're just in the early stages, and if it's really that tough for you already, then I fear for the pup when he gets into his "exploring and chewing" phase. Having a puppy is a responsibility that you can't take lightly, it's a heck of a lot of work, but it's sooooo much fun! My experience with Herkie and Kuma, the good FAR outweighed the bad. You kind of just have to laugh and learn from your mistakes, we all make them. But if you truly can't give this pup the patience and love that she deserves, then I think it's best that you try to find her a home where someone can. I hope that you start seeing the joys of having a pup, and realize that's what she is, and she has to be taught what's right and wrong, just like any child.
And I'm really not trying to be mean when I say this, but someone once told me..."If you can't handle the pressures and have patience with a pup and want to give him away for some of the bad things he's done, are you going to give away your toddler too?" A lot of people don't appreciate the comparison of babies and pups....but you can't tell me the Herkie is not MY CHILD! Whatever you decide, it's got to be the right choice for your pup. If you can't give her the best life she deserves, the please find her a forever home. Good luck with your decision.
