what to do when boxers "talk back"

quick ?, what do you do when you are saying "NO!" and she starts to bark at you? All I have been doing is ignoring her, because the more I engage the more she barks and thinks we are playing. Here is an example. Eating food on the couch and she wants to come up, (too little to jump on own) so I say down and assist her down. She attempts again and I scold "NO!" Boom, she starts barking back.
Do I get out the soap? j/k

Ignoring them is a pretty good idea. Also a quick NO should do a good job. DO NOT, no matter what LAUGH!!! If you laugh she will do it over and over, and that is NOT what you want! Good Luck, sounds like you've got a girl willing to go the extra mile to get what she wants!

my boy jake is very vocal ! what we do here when he gets a little too mouthy is tell him " dont yell at me " not sure why but it works

Sergeant doesn't bark back, he 'mouths' at you! He puts his lips over his teeth (he looks like a little old man with no teeth), then he mummbles, and all the time he is wagging his tail. We have quite a conversation some times, the only thing is I would like to know what he is telling me!

So, I am not the only one who has a Boxer that "back talks"?! Hooray!! Tess will sometimes do the mumble thing at me when I am scolding her....my kids think it's hysterical since they know that is a BIG "no-no" in our house. I ignore her and she quits.

We have a Whiner...Laurel has a large vocal wimpering range. We tell her shush, and it usually helps, or we ignore her.

Hardy will loudly and strongly tell us when things aren't fair. That's fine. He can make his point. Once.

Anytime after that we say NO! loudly. If he continues, a third time, we will hold his mouth shut(loosely) and growl at him. This has always stopped it.(But he will sulk in silence instead...)

I've never had one talk back. But my husband used to play the harmonica in the evenings and the dogs, a lab and a boxer, would "sing" along. It was so funny. They even seemed to perfer some songs over others. Not singing with the ones they didn't like. Also they didn't always like the same things, so we had some solos and some duets.

I know your not supposed to laugh but I can't help it.
Molly sings when she talks back and it is just so funny.
We usually talk right back to her like she is a whinning
child. (E.G. why is the little baby crying) I'm not sure if this works but it makes us feel better.

Same here..whenever my boyfriend scolds her and saids NO! She gets this little stubborn look on her face crouches back and wooowoooooss!! AND barks! So stubborn! I too can't help but laugh..the Woowoooss are just too funny. Her lips pucker up and looks so adorable! :p

Just like with my baby. We tried to ignore for a while but that made her more hyper. Molly is very persistant..she never never gives up. Now we just have conversations.
