What to do in Pit Bull Attack?

I am moving to DC 16th street NE

I have two boxers.... xxxx I sure hope this dog doesn't live around there!! It is also very suspicious that the pit was able to get loose the way he did. I would suggest filing charges against the owner.

Table Salt to the snout and eyes

The one thing that seems to work on pit bulls is table salt to the snout and eyes. They hate it and they usually will release. I heard that from a animal warden.

I live in Shaw. The problem with aggressive dogs is city wide. I've had young boys approach me while walking my puppy and ask me if my dog can fight! There are many, many irresponsible dog owners. Animal Control in DC is disfunctional at best with a good deal of employee turnover.
Unfortunately, in DC a dog has to attack unprovoked, two times before the dog is taken from it's owner. We had to make several calls to Animal Control and the Police. The owner will be served with a notice and will hopefully choose to muzzle, contain, or train the dog. The truth of the matter is, most of the time someone who does not train thier dog in the first place, is not likely to after an incident. I carry a can of Direct Stop (see previous) and do not walk down the streets where I know there are aggressive, dangerous dogs. On a positive note, I've met lots of responsible dog owners who all work together to report animal abuse, push dog park legislation, etc.

omg my brother in law has a red nose pit. (chuckie) the name fits the dog. . well that dog is so mean. there are only a selected few that can enter there house. im one of them thank goodness. but yeah john use to let chuckie hang from a big spring thing to make his muscles in his neck get bigger. its crazy. yeah that dog will bite or attack anyone who enters that house. he is so aggressive. very aggressive. its my bro inlaws fault. when chuckie was little before he was mean john took him to florida and these people were petting him and he was fine and then a little girl asked john if she could pet him and he said well yeah and chuckie just snapped. and from then on he has been the most aggressive dog ever. i dont kn ow what to think of him. hes not fixed. john has seriously thought about putting him to sleep. if he got out and bit someone thats a law suit waiting to happen. chuckie is a really sweet dog to us, that can come around him but to others he is visious. ms. but i dont know what i would do if that dog attacked me i would be killed. i would definately file a suit against the owner. definately. and see like you all said my opinion about pitbuls has changed because of chuckie. i am terrified of them now.

Getting loose

The problem is, esp. if you live in a city, even the most carefully contained dogs sometimes get out by accident. I'd hate for your brother-in-law's dog to attack a person. A dog that is "human" aggressive is very dangerous. A guard dog is one thing, but hearing how he reacted to the little girl with your brother in-law present!!! It sad to see a dog put down because it was bred or trained to be vicious, but when the well being of humans are concerned, sometimes it's necessary.

I just came across this post and I'm very sorry about what happened..that said I encourage you to get this reported..one of my friends has a pit bull and she also has a website. Punish the deed not the breed!! If you do not raise them to be socially acceptable then you should not have them.
