Looking for a playmate for Max, I want another boxer female, my fiancee wants a small breed, any recommendations, and should they be a female if they are another breed. Thanks to all who give input!

Super Boxer
In addition to our 2 boxers we have 2 small breed dogs, a maltese and a bichon frise. I love these little guys to pieces, but would doubtfully have another of either. They require a lot of grooming for their long hair. But as far as temperment and getting along with the boxers they are great. But each dog, no matter the breed, is different of course. If you are not crazy about all the grooming and taking care of long hair, maybe a boston terrier, pug, french bulldog, beagle, or bassett hound would be better?
I have never had a problem with agression between any of them, but have always heard it is on the safe side to stick with male/female pairs. Again I think it all depends on the dogs' personalities.
It is great that you are trying to research before getting your new pup. I hope you find the perfect fit for you family!

boston terrier

I have a boston terrier and will be looking to get a boxer this summer. You will not be disappointed with a boston terrier.

I agree, Bostons are little dogs w/ BIG personailties...they are funny , sweet & sturdy.

My Boston has NO problems playing w/ my Boxers & I think the breeds are a very good match !

Boxer Insane
My brother has a new English bulldog pup and a boxer who get along great. The bulldog seems to play about the same as the boxers do. She's a rough little devil and loves to jump and play a lot like our boxers.

Endless Possibilities

In my opinion, Boxers are very versatile. They seem to get along with anything and everything. I'd be more worried about the other dog wanting to be friends with the boxer. We have a schnauzer and a dachsund next door that our boxer wants to play with so badly, but they aren't so friendly. My ex husband's sister had a boxer and she's the same. Wants to be friends with anything that moves. But I would recommend a very playful dog. Boxers can be very annoying to a pet that just wants to be left alone. Like our boxer, they want to play 24/7. I agree with the boston terrier, they are hyper and playful and won't mind a boxer jumping on them constantly.

I also have a Boston and I don't know if I just don't see it but he doesn't really have bug eyes. I think Pugs are more bug eyed than Bostons. Either way he is like a mini boxer and he gets along so well with Angel.

I agree

I don't see the buggy eyes either in my boston. I will probably always have bostons because they are everything and more to what everybody else said about them.

I didn't mean to offend any bt owners as I would have one right now. I told my better half that they don't look like that. Remember the Mastercard commercial with the dog that was lost. It was great I corresponded with MC and by golly it was a Boston Terrier. Maybe I should just go get one. She will grow to love it and hate me. LOL!!!
