What should I do? (kinda long)

I got my new baby 2 days ago and take her out to potty often. The first day she would usually go to the bathroom right away and I would bring her back in. Today when I take her out she only sits there looking at me or tries to get me to play with her. My questions are do I refuse to play until she goes and how long should I stay outside with her? I mean, if she doesn't go in 15 minutes of being outside does that mean I take her back in without her going? When she doesn't go it is hard to not engage her other than saying "go potty" if we are outside for more than 10 minutes. She had accidents while home alone yesterday, none last night and none today so far. Thanks in advance for the advice.

It's best if you can get them into the habit of going straight away, nothing worse than standing in the garden freezing your bum off while your dog messes around (yes I speak from experience)

I learnt my lesson with Lola so it's best to take them out and give them a command word (ours is wee wee for pee & poop) and if they haven't been after like 10 mins take them back in, if they then do it in the house pick them up and take them straight back outside even though they've just done it. They eventually work it out.

Any time she is outside and doing her business say "" potty and don't play or interact unless she does her business. Then spend a couple of minutes playing outside before you bring her back in. You want her to get the message that she has to go first before you play. Second, eventually she will associate the word "potty" with doing her stuff and she will do it when you say the word. Takes some time but our Emma is now 3 and when she is out, especially on cold days, as soon as we say potty, she goes does her business. Good luck.

Agree completely. Just keep them with you when you go back in (tether them to you even) so they do not have too many accidents inside. Good luck!

My 2 pups are doing pretty well. I take them outside and say "go potty" over and over in a normal voice(not high pitched, excited and not angry - just an even, assertive tone). Also, I know now that they need to poop once in the morning and once in the late afternoon/evening. At these times if they pee and try to come back inside without pooping, I stand there and point to the grass and say "go poop" over and over. Just about every time, they get the message and do what they're supposed to do. Of course, I've been doing this with both of them since we've had them. We've had Arrow since Christmas and Sofie since late January. They are now about 4 months. Consistently giving those commands will get them to learn. It just takes persistence.
