Boxer Pal
Or is that a rhetorical question?

This is my first post here (well I posted under another thread and got no response) and I have to say that this board is a wealth of information for boxer owners.

I am a proud mom of a 10 week old Boxer pup named Beau. I logged on this morning to ask a question about this very subject. This is my first puppy and I did a lot of reading before and after purchase and I know that puppies chew and bite, etc. Beau is biting constantly!!!!!! Anything and everything. He bites hands feet , (my favorite sweatpants!!). I corect him every time and say "No bite", hand him his toy tell him good boy but this just seems to incite him and he growls and bites more. I have now started to put him in his crate after without any fanfare. He is now starting to growl more when he gets in to this mode and I am wondering if this is aggressiveness or just puppy play....

So, just how much biting is normal and do I have an aggresive pup, or do I just need to establish my role in a different manner to get him to listen? I appreciate all your help.

Completely Boxer Crazy
This is a common problem with boxer pups...they just want to play and play to a boxer baby = growling and biting!!

What I did was, first try to keep him occupied at all times, play with him, get him a kong, stuffed animals etc...if he is bored he will decide it's time to play with your pants, hands feet etc...

It is extremely important that YOU decide when it is time to play and what kind of play is appropriate, if you cannot successfully redirect his play then you must ignore him all together....Say NO BITE and what i used to do is lock myself in my bathroom for about a minute....if he is biting your feet sit on them....do not let him engage you in any way shape or form..

He is not aggressive he is just a playful pup!!! and the best remedy is excercise, an excercised pup is a tired pup and a tired pup is good pup!!

Amber+Myah

Boxer Buddy
Myah was our first boxer baby as well, and I've learned a lot just from experience. She just turned a year old, so I know the puppy blah's very well.

We almost changed her name to Myah de Chomp. She'd bite anything and everything when she was in a play mood. I learned from my vet that when she bit us (hands or feet) to grab her front bottom lip and kind of hold her jaw. They can't stand it! But she eventually stopped. Another thing I do is turn my back on her, and she usually calms down.

Good luck - puppies are so much fun!!! :)

I'm afraid that puppies don't arrive knowing what "no" means. When he bites, distract him with toy or something. If that doesn't work, turn your back on him, fold you arms over your chest and look up. They will eventually learn that biting doesn't get them the attention that they desire. If they are really out of control you can put them in a time-out in their crate. This is not meant as a punishment. Just calmly take them by the collar and put them in their crate. You only do it for a couple of minutes, just time for them to settle down. If you don't have a crate, I would highly recommend that you get one. :)

Do a search on "biting", you will find out a lot more information.

Your puppy is not aggressive. He is just a typical boxer puppy. They can be very trying sometimes. :)
