Was playing around on here while Vixen is napping, and was all ready to fill out a survey, when I came across an unfamiliar term - kidney bean (dance?) Anyway, I HAD to find out what this was. Our pup is 8 weeks (we are first time boxer owners), and I did notice that when she get really excited sometimes she walks around in a circle almost as if she is trying to get her tail. She also seems to (if you can imagine) walking this way when she is heading over to our fence to say hello to our neighbor Gracie (a 1 yr old Golden Retriever) while her lil' tail wags. Her little torso gets into a bean shape (is this what kidney bean means?), and I was curious if this is exclusive to boxers? (It is so darn cute!!) Thanks!

That would be the Kidney Bean Dance! They're just way too cute when they do that when they're really little like your baby!

You know the kidney bean - you just explained it pretty well.....it's when they are all excited and basically curve their bodies in half - the head and tail almost meet - hence the kidneybean!!

So THAT'S What It's Called!!

So glad I found this thread, I had started calling it the "Daddy Dance" because Sheila furiously starts kidneybeaning the second my husband walks through the door from work! All the girls at our vet's office swear they've never seen a puppy's butt go so far from side to side.

Very reassuring to hear that the gas, the leaning, the using us as her personal napkins (we refer to it as being "slimed", a la Ghostbusters), and the love and affection are all par for the course here in BW!

Sadie does the kidney bean hop. She gets all excited when I get home from work that while beaning she jumps up and is in the middle of a bean, she does this a couple of times before I pet her. The wife gets mad because she doesnt do it for her when she gets home and my wife is the one who gets home first.:D

Ricochet 'kidneybean's' every time I walk in the house! I didn't know there was a term for it but I don't think it is exclusive to Boxers as my collie cross and my Lakeland terrier do the same thing! I think it is how they show they are submissive!
