what is it with the shoes?

I have to hide my shoes from my dogs. If I forget, they always wind up in the backyard. Why is this?

I had a trainer tell me that dogs will find something that smells like you if they cannot get your attention. They are going to find something almost as good as you. The best toy I have found for my dog is the Kong. You can fill it with treats or peanut butter and that will keep them busy. Its a challenge for them to get the treats out.

My pup Fred loves to sneak off with shoes. He will take one of the pair and you have to hobble all over the house looking for the second one. I think this is his idea of "Boxer Humor".

My daughter showed me the heel of my Birkenstocks today :eek:. I guess she was watching Roxy while my shoe was being realigned.

Interesting thing is that she used to run off and steal the neighbors shoes too, if she found them outside. I don't think she can carry the pair at the same time, so she must have done two trips. Go figure.

We have had numerous pairs end up in the backyard or get chewed up while we were gone. We would often find a pile of them (our "outside" shoes that we use for lawn work) by their doggie door. It is only Ella who does it and it seems to be random now (we had some separation anxiety issues for awhile - we use kongs, tug a jugs, kong time, etc). It has just taught us to put our shoes away.
