Starting to clip a puppies nails. I dont want to start too soon and I actually have no idea when it is best to do this. What did you all do?

I did it the day they came home..they needed a bit of a trim. Puppies nails (like human babies) grow quick. I used a baby nail clipper..I just clipped off at where it was starting to curve down a bit.

I was at Carson's breeder the week before I took him *so he was around 7 wks at the time of the visit* and she did each and every one of the pups (12 in total..2 litters) with the dremmel. It was quick, quick.

Since Echo's got a few black nails I didn't clip those at all but when she went to the vet the day after I got her, they clipped those black nails for me :)

Nails start getting clipped at week 1 of age....and should be done once a week after that.

Dremmel is the quickest and easiest tool for this job, and saves you the pain and trauma of accidentally hitting a quick.

Good luck.
