I was wondering I was once approached by another boxer owner (years ago may I add) and was told that my dog Roxy had a "frog face", I got real mad at the lady and told Roxy she was beautiful (which she was!) and left. I had never heard that term before and I haven't to this day? Does anyone know what it means? its been a few years and I'm still confused, I do however feel that it can't be something nice to say to someone about their dog.

Can anyone tell me what it means? I did a search on it an found no information on boxerworld. Any clairity would be appreciated.

Thanks!
Colly

I've never heard that. Maybe the lady should have explained what she meant. I'm sure someone here knows and I'd be curious to fid out too!

I'm thinking the term is "frog mouth" and I'm pretty sure I read about it in Frau Stockman's "My Life With Boxers".

Anyway, from what I remember it describes a Boxer mouth that resembles the mouth of a frog...hard to explain but in the book (or where ever I read about it) there was a drawing of a Boxer with the look they were describing. It did look much like a frog...

Okay, found it...F. Stockmann's book "My Life With Boxers" page 198.

"With a few lines I sketched the head of an American Boxer from the front with it's very wide muzzle. These dogs have no expression because they have a frog's mouth. Quickly I drew a frog's head next to the Boxer head. Then came a picture of a skull. The lower jaw was undershot but not turned upwards. As a result, the dog had no chin and lacked that Boxer expression."

Sheeba is exactly like this....you can't find her chin unless you move her top lip. Another thing about Sheeba is that her flews seem to stick out to the sides more than hang down...that along with no chin really gives the impression of a "frog's mouth".

Hope this helps. :)

frog faces are cute!

I would say that "frog face" is an endearing term. Go to a toy shop and look at all the adorable frog toys out there...its cause there faces are so cute. I just bought a frog stuffed animal for my new puppy (his favorite I might add). I think it has to do with the wide straight lips (curved slightly into a smile) typical of boxers...and frogs. Only a few other dogs have that look, like pugs and boston terriers, for instance.

Anyway, I would take the comment as someone who was expressing affection for your pup...certainly not as an insult. Okay? Now go kiss those little frog lips of that puppy of yours...aren't they the cutest???

Regards,
Sallie

I alwas thought Gracie looked like a frog when she lays on her back and the bottom of her mouth is facing up. The way her cheeks kinda flap out.

Hard to explain, I may need a picture.
