Titan was tossing his toy today and all of a sudden he just stopped and looked at me like "watch me here I go" and took off doing boxer burns for like 10 minutes. It was hilarious. He tried to run full throttle the whole time, even squeezing between the couch and the railing leading down the stairs. Every time he passes thru there he looks down the stairs too, like nope dont want to end up down there, and keeps on burning. But the funny thing is he stops as quick as he starts--does anybody elses do that?? It's like flipping on/off a switch --he's goofy though sometimes.

Yes, the "Boxer Burn" is the funniest thing that I have ever witnessed a dog do! Roxy gives me a wonderful "burn" every morning after her 'potty break' and when she comes into the house, always starts my day off with a smile
God invented the boxer to remind us how to laugh out loud!
Boxer Burn: Rear end down low, tucked under nub, stiff front legs, goofy looks, and runnin in circles.....

Yep, that sounds like my Jasmine alright. Just yesterday she came barreling down the staircase did some 360's on the landing came down the rest of the way hit the rug turned went back up the stairs did some more 360's on the landing came down again ran back up all the way to the stop of the stairs turned around ran back down the stairs then stopped on the landing to look at me. I tensed up and took a quick step forward and she started all over again. And she did this about 6 or 7 times. Whew, I'm tired just talking about it.

Michelle & Rocco (Luvnboxers), you gave the perfect description! :D

Asia will do a Boxer burn whenever we come back inside from an outside walk, after a bath, or to get her daddy's attention! If he is sleeping and it's late (she is a late sleeper also) but she wants him to play with her, she will go on her usual route but once she gets to the bed, she will only put her paws up on it (with her tongue sticking out of course), 'drive by' lick Mark, then do it again until he wakes up ... its actually a really cute way to wake up!! :D

Ahhh the boxer burn...such a treat to watch for us humans! Mine burn right after a potty break or a bath! You wanna see a good burn...give 'em a bath! Spirit however will just suddenly go into burn mode with no warning, probably because he's still a silly pup!
Luvnmyboxer..haha..it is exactly like an on/off switch somewhere on them! Spirit can be doing 90miles around the house and then just suddenly stop as quick as he started! My favorite is the expression in the eyes...that "gone crazy..back soon" look! :p Too funny!

Hahaha.. my parents experienced boxer burn for the first time on Christmas Eve.... Willis was neutered a few days before and had no exercise. Plus, he had company, and there was a frenzy of activity with opening presents etc. We took his cone off to let him outside and he just busted out in a dead run doing figure eights. After his regular route was finished, I opened the door to let him in and... he wasn't done at all! He burned into the house and just about knocked my mom over and ran downstairs into the living room, and back up to the kitchen, outside, back to the living room about 4 times. My parents were astonished... my mom panicked a little bit and thought there was something wrong with the dog.. she was trying to catch him. Finally when he was done, she just turned to me and said "Now I know why you haven't put new carpet in"

I love it, I always called them his funny 5 mins but Boxer Burns is so much better. Its just the way they stare at you then they pounce down on their front paws with their butts in the air... and then they are off.

Great how the smallest things can make you smile :) )

Yep, boxer burns are fun to watch, as long as you stay out of the way. The 360's, (I call them helicopter spins) where they jump and spin are a regular part of Boru's burns. :)

My boy does one just about everytome he goes outside. He just runs circles with each circle he does gets smaller and smaller until he does a 360 spin. After that he jumps the steps on the deck and sits in front of the door. Usuakky this means that nap time is close.

I read somewhere that the 360 before settling down to sleep is an old (and I mean OLD) instinct that domesticated dogs have kept from their wild ancestors. They would (and I believe this has been observed in wolves, but could be wrong) find a patch of grass or leaves and twigs and stomp around in a circle before they would lie down to rest. I think scientists believe they would do this to make the sleeping area flatter and more comfortable. I love to watch Zuzu circle on her bed, because she turns a few times in one direction and then switches directions for a few more rotations before she settles down. The funny thing is that it seems like she always settles in exactly the same spot! My favorite part of the boxer burn is the way her front legs flail out in front of her as she leaps around. I think it is SO hilarious and often wonder how she does not injure herself!!!!
