What food would you suggest switching to next?

Hi

We have had Libby almost two months now and when we got her we changed her food to Canidae All Stages dry and wet as she was having horrible slimy poops and a lot of redness (vet thought it was either food allergies and/or stress). She loves this new food, her poops firmed up completely and her hair is really shiny and she has put on the needed weight.

The redness has lessened except when she is excited or gone for a nice walk but, she definitely still has it. As well I think she may have seasonal alopecia after reading the posts about it and looking at the pictures. She has a long strip 5-6 inches on her back, a few smalls spots on her side and one on her head. She doesn't seem to be bothered by it though.

Because of the redness, I am now thinking of switching her food after the 12 weeks to either venison, fish or duck with either sweet potatoes or just potatoes but, we aren't sure which would be better and what brand. I am hoping this will help a lot more as we would be changing the protein source and eliminating the rice.

I am getting overwhelmed by the the dog food reviews so any help or suggestions would be appreciated on choosing a new type would be appreciated.

We love her so much and she has fit in so well with the other pets that we just want her to be totally happy after her rough beginning.

I use Natural Balance Potato and Duck and it works well for my 4 month old. He has been on it since shortly after we brought him home. He had an allergic reaction to the food that the breeder had him on so we tried it, and it worked wonders. Even have gotten compliments from our vet. I know Natural Balance also has a venison and brown rice formula, and another one with sweet potatoes in it too. And...they are all life stages foods.

You might want to try Natural Balance, they have two allergy formulas. What you want to do when you rotate is use a completely different protein source - so if you are going from chicken and lamb then fish and sweet potato or duck and potato would be perfect.

What do you think of Fromm's food? I read the Natural Balance review and it questions the meat content of the food. Do you think the meat content is sufficient?

Natural Balance is a four star rated food. Although it questions some of the meat content, it is still a high quality food, as opposed to a lot of other ones. It is used a lot for dogs with allergies because of the low grain/no grain content. Most, if not all, people on here will say that 4 star food is perfectly acceptable to feed our babies. Nothing is perfect of course.

Fromm's is a quality food as is Natural Balance (it's still rated a 4) - I would venture to say if you feed anything within the 4, 5 and 6 star category you are doing pretty good.

we love the boxer 26 from royal cannin but i think there is a certain age before you can start implementing in diet.

You could try Nature's Variety Prairie New Zealand Venison Meal and Millet. The grains are millet, oatmeal and barley. I think Fromm's foods all have brown rice in them.
