Okay -- this may just be a matter of the family issue we have to work on (establishing the pecking order aournd here)...BUT nearly every morning, after I get up and feed and let him out - I sit on the sofa to watch some t.v. and drink my morning shake...now Cowboy will stand in front of me and get real mouthy...we joke that it is his "Timmy is in the well...come on!" attitude - he gets real excited and just does a ton of Woo-woo, barking, and jumping around I will play fetch with him for a bit, but he gets bored and comes back to yell at me some more -- what does he want?

I would compare it to the whiny teenager - but at least you know what the teenager wants!! :)

Thanks!
AJ!!

Mason will do that alot with me - and it would seem only with me! He'll whine and woo woo to get my attention, or for me to play with him, or that he wants a cookie, or that he is hungry - or sometimes just to whine, woo woo and wriggle! I am trying to be really strong in not responding, as he knows now that I will usually cave and give him what he wants just for some peace!! I'm hoping it's a phase he'll grow out of! The few times I have just ignored him, he will eventually give up and find something else to do!

He wants attention. He needs more exercise in the morning than just a few rounds of fetch. He's trying to tell you to get up from in front of that television and get outside and get some exercise.

Duke woo's and thumps me if I don't pay the correct amount of attention to him. Today he started mouthing my toes. YUCK - I hate feet so BELIEVE me...it worked!!

Luckily I have 2 other boxers and when Duke starts his wiggling I let them all outside for a good wrestle in the snow. That gets him out of my hair and off my back. For 15 minutes anyway. LOL!!

This does happen AFTER we run with him! We run about 2 miles in the a.m with him - that is when we come back in and i relax to watch tv (hubby and I are athletes) - maybe youa re right Tulsa-Dan he is needs to even out exercise us -- maybe doggie bodybuilding! :)

Nicole - ha ha!! Our Boxer person (behavioralist/trainer lady) did suggest another boxer in the house...

Whenever he plays with my mom's Husky and Golden retriever he never does this...maybe he needs some more wild time.

He LOVES to run -- the best part of that is he it GREAT at it - on a leash! He runs right along side us! Hubby and I take turns - (hubby more so than me - I am more an evening runner - but we make sure he gets time in the morning) Our routine is a.m. one or both of us runs with him before Hubby heads of to work (police officer - wokrs at 6am) - then if I get up I head back to bed with Cowboy (who crawls under the covers!), then we sleep.

He is so silly! Okay -- It is fun to hear other people experiencing this! I try to ignore him too when he does this - but usually i say "get a toy" that is when the fetch and tug-o-war game begins - usually lasts 15-30 minutes...

I will go with Tulsa Dan on this and start heading outside in the am (hey - I can never get too much exercise - but I LOVE my Katie Couric in the morning ha ha). Play some fetch...

Thanks all!
Aj

(and Cowboy -- woo training AJ is more work than I thought)

AJ...

I'm cracking up over here!! Doggy bodybuilding! What an idea! If you find a gym that'll take yours, let me know...I swear to GOD I will drive to New Jersey just to get some peace.

I've offered to let some of the guys at work-police officers :) - take him for runs...one right after another preferably. No takers so far. Must be because he growls at anything in a blue uniform (thank goodness mine's gray).

If you have the means or the energy a boxer buddy might not be a bad idea. It's helped me out tremendously. My Rock was on his own, got him his sister Shelby and for months it was like I didn't exist. Now they have Duke (or Duke has them) and it's really nice. They play with me but if I need to I just send them packin' out to the backyard.

You might want to look into getting him into some kind of sport or agility...something in your area...a puppy day care...SOMETHING...just to expend his energy.

Nicole - GREAT IDEA - agility!! I can set up some little jumps - he's be great at that!! HUbby and I talked about getting him into some of thsoe Frisbee contests!! He is GREAT at that!!

I was weight training the other day and Cowboy tried to grab my barbells from me!! ha ha!! Maybe he is a doggie prodigy - look out Arnold -- it is Cowboy the Boxer --- I bet my dog could take out Mike Tyson!

:D

I contacted the Boxer rescue lady we got him from - she said we could do some playdates -- that would be cool considering she has four boxers at a time there!!

She also has this BEAUTIFUL girl aw - I am so in love with that pooch! She is petite and white with a little brownish aroudn the eye! It is hysterical - Cowboy adores her (he is a much bigger Boxer on the large size for the breed) but she doesnt give him the time of day! It is hysterical - she is so aware of how cute she is!! He will cahse her all over - then she turns and smacks (I guess it is more a punch!) then runs from him!

It is like watching a seen on an elementary school playground - only she pulls his pigtails!! ha ha!!

I told Hubby to bring Cowboy to the city with him to work - and he laughed --- he looks much more threatening than he really is - he'd run up to the drug deallers wagging his stump and giving kisses!! ha ha! (of course a wagging stump is followed by a tigger jumping attack!!).

Of course when we first got him all our neighbors thought we had a pit-bull - lovely. That drives me crazy I had to go aroudn and introduce him and tell them he is a white Boxer - they all did their research and later told me - oh Boxers are great with Kids!! Glad he isnt a pit-bull! (duh - me too!!). He is big for a boxer - let alone a pit bulL!

I think I am officially addicted to this board!
(good for Cowboy - as I am getting trained here~!)
