What do you do if you're allergic to dogs?

My co-worker has(had) a 2yr old Boxer named Sergio and a JRT named Pepper.She has VERY bad allergies and has recently become allergic to her dogs.She takes tons of RX's for her allergies, but the Dr told her to get rid of her boys!So in order to preserve her health she's found a home for Sergio...with her cousin, and Pepper will be going to his home in about a week.It's breaking her heart to having had to give up her babies, but she feels she can visit Sergio so maybe it won't be so bad.He's only been with her cousin since Monday and he's not doing that great, he's eating, but has been fighting with his new sis Sasha(she's a boxer too)!Sasha is terrified of him and wants nothing to do with him.So her cousin wants to give it a few more days and see what happens, but if it doesn't improve...Sergio may have to come back to my friend(I hope he does).But are there any other ways of minimizing allergies to dogs?Her meds don't really work on this...and I was wondering if there may be a simple home remedy that may work.If you guys have any suggestions, please let me know.I know my friend really wants her boys back!She did say, if she can't take being without them...she may just have to live with the allergies!Thanks for any thoughts ya'll have.

There is a shampoo out called Allerpet that is available thru
www.carealotpets.com. It runs 6.79 for a 16 oz. bottle. I'm not sure if it is available in any store but it"s worth a try I order alot of things thru them-good prices and VERY reasonable shipping and I usually have it in a couple of days. Hope it helps

it may sound silly

my stepmom is allergic to pets and during my lifetime we had a husky, a GS and now they have a Mastiff and she dealt with her allergies through accupuntucture. She was able to quit taking meds completley. Just a thought.

I have severe allergies to just about everything. I have gone through allergy shots 3 seperate times to no avail. I also have asthma. I have a Boxer and 2 cats and will probably be getting a second Boxer in the near future. I've learned to deal with my allergies. I'm not going to live in a bubble. Sure breathing is nice but I just couldn't imagine not having animals in my life.

Your body copes with it. I still get hives sometimes when Nala licks me. But the more you are around what you are allergic to, the more immune you become to it. That is the concept of allergy shots. Introduce your allergies into your system and your body builds up a tolerance for them.

I have 2 Ionic Breeze's in my house. They are absolutely amazing. Pulls stuff out of the air that you had no idea was in the air. Couldn't live without them.

I vacuum at least twice a week with a Dyson vacuum cleaner. Another amazing machine. Has HEPA filtration and picks up every last little particle of dust and pet dander.

I've had allergies and pets all my life.

My sister and brother-in-law are both allergic to dogs, but they have one and both of them use Flonase. They never complain, but maybe their allergies are less severe.

My DH and I also have allergies. His are more seasonal but mine are constant. I dust/vacuum (with hepa filter) upwards of 3 times per week. Change furnace filters often and make sure to clean out the registers everytime I vacuum. I also brush my cat daily even though she has short hair. I brush Cami less frequently as she doen't seem to bother me as much as the cat, (although Cami sleeps in the bed the cat actually sleeps near my face).

I wash all of the bed linens weekly and use a steam cleaner on the carpets at least monthly. This is the only way we can deal. We just pretty much stay stuffy! A humidifer also seems to help in the winters.

I hope she is able to get her babies back!

Hoovering with the Dyson is a great idea, they are amazing machines for removing pet hair.

Your friend might want to try taking something homeopathic like tissue salts. They're completely non-addictive (unless they work and then she'll probably want to keep taking them by choice) and they work on building up your body's immune system without introducing any chemicals. They're easy to take as they just dissolve in your mouth and they don't have any of the foul taste that you'd expect from regular medicine.

I wish her luck with conquering her allergies, especially since they're related to her babies!

My hubby is allergic to my almost 10 month old boxer.It gets red spots on him when she trys' to kiss him.He lets her kiss him and before he goes to sleep every night he takes a shower.Alsohe has to shave his face like every other day because she likes to lick his face.
