What about cleaning leather couches? I heard that their "slobber" sometimes creates spots on leather.

On my material couch I have a blanket on it that is washed, I own a carpet steamer and clean the carpets due to stains on a daily basis,we only have carpet in our bedrooms and a area rug in the living room On the leather couch I wash the stains off actually the leather is great. Foreman dosen't drool and slobber Harley does we have baby wipes thru our house to wipe his face no way about it if you have boxers there is work but they are worth it.

Plus I am a fan of febreeze

I don't do anythng out of the normal cleaning. I try to vaccuum everyday, I wash the bedding at least once a week, and the dogs get a bath every month and usually sprayed off with just water about once a week (sand, grit, and mud is abundant when we come home from camp.)
I also burn the bath and body works home oils and the scents do last for days.

Do they smell more as they get older? Sammy is amazingly neutral in odor. Even after we're outside running around, she has virtually no smell. I don't notice her toys smelling or anything. I do wash her bed and her pillows, but I have only bathed her 2 or 3 times ever. Just wondering if they get stinkier with time...

Not that I've noticed - our Sophie will be 10 in a few weeks and she never smells. We don't bath ours alot either they just don't seem to need it.

I found that now that Moe has to eat really good food he doesn't smell and he doesn't need a bath as often. He just has that great boxer smell when I put my nose in his chest. He goes to doggy daycare once a week and they take him swimming....

Ok, I feel like a total slob!! I only vacuum once a week at best. Change sheets and wash dog bedding once a week.

I have worked to ensure my house doesnt smell like dog or cigarettes ( ;) ) what I do is this:

I use an Airwick scented oil plug in every room (lavendar scented :) )
I spritz the house periodically with white vinegar (cheaper than febreeze ;) )
I wash the windows and tile floors with white vinegar (cheaper again)
I clean the carpets 2-4 times a year.
I open the windows as often as possible and turn the vent on high
I use a mixture of borax and homemade castile soap to wash my fabrics in

And all non-smoking, non-pet owning people who stop by say they cant tell that I smoke or have pets in my home (at least by smell that is) unless the dogs are wet or I have a lit cigarette.

:) Not sure though if the "cigarette smoke" smell overpowers the "dog" smell most times. But my house normally smells pretty fresh.

And I thought I was a good housekeeper!

I have 3 air cleaners.
I wipe down walls and cabinets once a week. (Brody is Sir Saliva Slinger)
I used vinegar on carpet stains, hard floors and wiping walls. (1/4 cup to a gal of water)
I have metered air fresheners. (Clean Cotton scent in all of them).
My dogs get a bath once a week, because I am allergic to their dander.
I have my carpets cleaned every 4 months.

I think my home smells better then houses with no dogs.
