We were just at the vet for a few issues, one of them being Chubs' red eyes (both eyes) which have also been very watery in the last week. Our theory was that it was related to his allergies, since he seems to always be allergic to something, or that they had been injured during a little tiff at the dog park. The vet said it is called conjunctivitis, which basically means an inflammation of the tissue around the eye. She said it could be from allergies (seasonal or otherwise) or even from sticking his head out of the car window. She did give us drops to put in them that are a combo of antibiotic and steroids. They seem to be helping after only a few days. She did caution us that if it was actually a scratch on his eye (which apparently you can tell because the dog will be squinting and trying to close that eye frequently--Chubs was not doing that) then you should not put steriod drops in it, because they impede the healing process. So I don't really have any advice, just info.

boxers being as sensitive as they are ,it could be anything from allergies,to dust, etc, mine gets that way when hes trying to pull on the leash on occasion or after a vigorous run at the dog park.

It could be many things, ranging from allergies to eye infections. It might not be a bad idea to have a vet check it out to be on the safe side. Once Roxy had a scratched cornia which made her eye red and nasty looking.

My girl gets red eyes when she's tired, when she's playing hard and when seasonal allergies start to irritate her. (Red eyes usually mean it's time for my DH to cut the grass!) I'm starting her on a fish oil and vitamin E regime to help combat the allergy irritants though.

There are lots of posts you can search concerning red eyes, as it is a common trait/issue among our beloved breed.

Make sure the vet rules out entropic eyelashes. This is where the eyelashes are turned inward and rub on the eyeballs. Dino had to have surgery to correct this.

My boy has no pigment in one of his eyes, causing it to be red. He has always been know as "that dog with the red eye". It has never bothered him, and it does get redder if he sticks his head out of the window on a car ride. Now he has cherry eye in the red eye, which can't be fixed until he loses more weight... waiting for that!
