My have two boxer babies. I have them on Science diet and they are seeming to get bored with it. Or shall I say my male. My male is 2 yrs and my female is 8 months. I still feed them both puppy formula because my female would eat my males adult formula instead of her own and I was scared she would miss her proper nutrients. What can I do to spice up their meals. I do not want to switch from Science diet because my male always has problems with his stool being loose and this is the first food that has his stool normal. I was thinking about boiling chicken thighs and meshing it up in their food. Do anyone have any advice.....My male weight drops tremdously if he doesn't eat good. I also heard that starch such as rice, pasta, and pototoes are not good for the pups. Is this true? My pup use to enjoy that. Also, I am going to switch now to adult food after reading some of the postings, I see I could have been done that. I wish I knew about this site when I had my first baby. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

From what I have read, if the food is a good quality even pups can eat it. Besides, if she's 8 months old she would be ready for adult food anyway. As for mixing stuff in I've also had to become crafty to get Oscar to eat. He loves yogurt (for gas), canned pumpkin (firms stool) and canned dog food mixed in. With the canned dog food I only use about a tablespoon and mix it in really well.

Good luck with your pups.

Science Diet isn't the greatest food around - feeding a premium or super premium food would probably help with the weight issues for your male dog. It could take several tries to find a food that doesn't give him runny stools though. As you've already noted, there's no need to keep your girl on a puppy formula.

Adding some raw or cooked chicken to their meals is great and could certainly help him with his weight. If you do cook chicken (or any other meat) just be sure not to feed the bones - cooked bones splinter, though raw is fine. If you check out the recipes and BARF forums, you'll find plenty of other meal ideas that you could use for supplementing your dogs' diet. Good luck :)

Thanks for the advice. We will pick them up some Chicken soup today. About the raw or cooked chicken, about how much is a good amount to add to their food?
