your boxerbabies in the event of your death? I know that it is unpleasent to think about but as a parent (of skin and fur kids) I just was wondering! I have made arrangements with a very close relative for my skinkids but as these people do not have fenced in yard and have never had a dog I am in a quandary as what to do with my fur babies. No one in my husbands or my families like my dogs (another vent for another thread one day) so they are odviously out and I cannot think of anyone else that is capable of taking care of all three (soon to be 4--husband is getting his dream dog- a shi-tzu- the first of december). My husband and I are planning to provide the financial support for our babies we just now need to decide on the perfect person or people to supply the emotional and physical support that they require. Am I putting to much pressure on myself? I just don't feel like anyone can take care of them as well as I can and I really don't want to separate them, especially Leo and Tanner, Leo stresses out if Tanner is not around and has problems with his demodectic mange flaring up. Does anyone think I am crazy? I think it is the upcoming holidays, they make me a little stressed! I would really like some input. Lord willing this will never be an issue that has to be dealt with but I am a "better safe than sorry" kinda person. Thanks

Boxer Insane
Ugh. I recently had to address this b/c I had surgery last week (nothing major, just on my knee). I felt it best to let my mom (she stayed with me and took me to surgery) know what to do in the event something happened. My mom had asked me to let her know what to do in the event something happened to me when I first got Tae. Regrettably, my parents do not desire another dog. We had a Husky when I was a child and I think now that the house is devoid of all dog hairs, my dad wishes to keep it that way!

My solution, though not ideal, was to provide my mom with the names of the two Boxer rescues in NC. I asked her to promise me not to take Tae to a shelter, which she did. Writing about this makes me so sad....I started crying when I talked to my mom about this.

I can totally understand about leaving money to be used for care of the dogs. I left a note with the type of food I feed Tae and where I buy it, etc.

Do you have a local Boxer rescue? I have noticed some will specify that two doggies need to be adopted together.

I hope it's never necessary to put your plan into action.

Hi Tanner-

I was watching a show on Animal Planet the other day and it was about an animal sanctuary that cares for animals after their owners pass on or are no longer able to care for them. The sanctuary was on a huge piece of acreage and the animals all got their own private kennel (some might have shared) with a bed, toys, etc. The animals stayed at the sanctuary for the remainder of their lives. In order to place a pet with the sanctuary, the owner had to pay a certain fee ahead of time (or yearly). I believe this sanctuary was located in Wisconsin/Minnesota. If you are concerned about what the future may bring, you might look into something like this.

Good luck and I hope you NEVER need to worry about what will happen to your babies!

PS - My parents have a 5-year-old male shih tzu and he is just adorable. He is a little prince and my dad refers to him as the son he never had! I'm sure you will love your new addition.

Not a Good Idea

Let's not forget Boxers love being around people. Sancuary's sound so sad for how often would they have contact with people.

Just the thought brings a tear to my eyes.

I agree with you on your above post. I would hope that someone in my family would take Riley if (God forbid) something happened to me =( I'm only 25...so I'm not anticipating going anywhere anytime soon!

I just wanted to pass along the info that I saw on TV...an animal sanctuary or whatever might be an alternative for someone who has no other alternatives. The sanctuary was staffed by people everyday...the animals weren't left alone to fend for themselves. The particular episode that I saw (I think the show was "Pet Story") was about a retired police dog (GSD) that couldn't find another home and the police station paid for him to stay at the sanctuary.

I remember that episode. The dog actually came from my city. The place seemed great.
Last July I went on a trip and made sure my will was revised to include my dogs. Of course I know my parents would take them in if I went before them. But if they go before I do, which most likely will happen I have set it up for a friend to take them until good homes can be found. I have written strict details on the type of family I want each dog to go to. It's probably stricter than some adoption applications. :) But if you don't have family and friends to do that sort of thing, maybe speak with a local rescue group to see if they would know other solutions. Just and idea. I know it's a subject no one likes to talk about but better to be prepared.

All of my worldly possessions are to be sold and the money put in trust for the care of my dogs after my death. I have designated a trustee who will care for all 3 of my dogs. She's a good friend and loves them as much as I do and is willing and able to treat them the way boxers should be cared for.

I have spoken with both my parents and my brother. My parents would be the ones that would take Toffee if something happened to me. If for some reason they were unable to, my brother would. They all adore her, and I know they would treat her very well.
