What is the best age to neuter a boxer? Our vet will not do it until he-s between 18 and 24 months. I've never heard this and tend to trust him since he owns 2 boxers himself. He claims it gives the Head and chest time to grow so the brain and heart have room to fill in and give that "Boxer look" Anyone else hear this? Or should I get it done now? Dempseys 13 months

Thanks
Mark

Umm. The best time is before puberty - so before 6 months if you want the maximum health benefits for your boy. Obviously that is not possible if he is already 13 months, so I'd settle for saying as soon as possible. The filling out thing is an old wives tale ;)

4 or 5 months is a good time? Duke is 4 months, 1 week, I've been debating on doing it now, next month or at 6 months. Either way, I just want him to be healthy!

Personally, I'd just do it now. Younger pups seem to bounce back faster. But any time prior to puberty (ie. before 6 months) will be fine and maximise the health benefits of having him neutered.

both my boys were dont at 4 months. the only problem I had was trying to keep them calm for 10 days for healing. that was tough

Hoss was neutered this week at 6.5 months, and he was just fine after the day of the surgery. No problems, completely back to normal.

Neutering so early meant only a tiny incision, for one thing, which made this a lot easier on him than it would have been later after he was more developed. He is already quite tall, and has a huge head, so if he didn't get any taller or whatever, it would be fine with me, but I'm sure he isn't done growing.
