What age should puppy be for ear cropping?

I have decided between 2 different vets to perform the ear crop on my puppy and I am receiving some conflicting information between them.

Our current vet chooses to crop ears between 10 & 12 weeks of age which is similar to what I have read (our puppy is 11 wks. now). Our other choice of vet, which was recommended by our breeder as a vet who does good show quality work, chooses to crop ears at about 14 wks. - after the puppy has had all of his shots. I am a little hesitant about that because I believe that that is too old from what I have researched.

Do any of you have any reccomendations regarding this matter? What age should the boxer be in order to crop their ears & is it necessary for them to have had all of their shots?

Thanks in advance for your input.

Baron - Brindle, male - 11 wks old.

I believe we were told 9-12 weeks old (I think Remy was about 10 weeks).
I too agree that 14 weeks seems a bit old. If you're set on doing it, I'd have it done NOW!

It's great that you have at least 2 vets to choose from. Fewer and fewer are doing ear cropping these days.

Hi Russ
Buddy had hiw ears cropped at 10 weeks. We were told the same as Linda..between 9 and 12 weeks. 14 weeks sounds a little bit too old to have it done.

Ours are typically cropped at 11 weeks, but our vet actually goes by weight.

14 weeks is a bit old, but not extremely. I'd be more concerned with who has the most experience with Boxer show crops, and whose ear crops (after the pups are adults) you like better.

Tyson had his cropped at 14 weeks. The vet we took him to said he usually crops at 14 weeks and up to 16 weeks. Tyson's ears turned out perfect. It did take about 4 weeks until the stood on their own without falling back down

Samson's were done at 12 weeks, the vet didn't want to wait any longer then that, he did great, only had two tapings, the vet also wanted to do it before he started his teething, because they lose so much calcium.
