He also gets Iams puppy chow with natural balance (the sausage roll kind) and yougrt plain full fat! he get peanut butter aprx 3 table spoons a day! I just do not kow what to do when he gets the runs! it comes and goes! HELP!!! He never goes in the house but sometimes he squats like he has to go and nothing comes out! I hate to see him like this!

How old is your baby?
3 tbsp of peanut butter is a little excessive, very rich stuff for a young tummy, maybe you can cut this down or forget this for the time being. If you do a search here on food you will find that Iams is not a high quality (human grade) food. Try some boiled chicken and rice to settle him down. A tbsp of canned pumpkin (plain-no spices) can help to firm his stools. Call your vet and ask if this is a common reaction to the meds he is taking.

Good Luck, Dora

Hi guys,
we dropped all processed foods with Major after the ivomectin treatment for demodex only made him worse & also gave him the runs... he is on pure BARF now & his stools are beautiful (if they could ever be described as that!) & has not looked back at all! I agree with Dora though thats probable alot of peanut butter for a baby try deceasing it a little & see but I would definitely get rid of the Iams & try the chicken & rice too.

Fingers crossed you work out something for him.

That just goes to show you how new I am at the mommy business!:) We keep the Iams because the vet recommended that we keep something in Tyson's food familiar while he transitions into a new home. We got him from the SPCA in the middle of July so he gets about a half of a cup a day(not the primary staple). Now maybe Im misinformed but the vet recommended PB eggs raw meat and lots of protein! to help Tysons hair come back and to help him gain some missing weight from his being lost and at the pound! I have looked at the barf diet a little but I would maybe like to find a modification in between! any suggestions? also the Natures balance seems to be his favorite and if you read the label it sounds like good stuff?!? any opnions? I am open to all suggestions from experienced demodex fighters and boxer parents because I am new all around! also I should mention that Tyson is a SUPER picky eater and it is so very important for him to eat as he is playing catch up!! I guess I should alos mention that Tyson is about a year give or take. We are not positive because like I said we got him from the SPCA

here is a link where I put down all that is in Major's diet

http://boxerworld.com/forums/showthread.php?p=512907#post512907

I also used this calculator link to work out how much he should be getting:
http://www.raw4dogs.com/calculate.htm

I started him out on raw chicken wings cut into 3's I was worried he'd scoff & choke! & a bit of boiled rice & eased him onto full barf over a week, I really love it now & I have less mess to clean up in the yard behind him & Molly & the cats (who are all BARFING now)

Good luck, but there is some infor in the threads about homecooking as well...It'll bring up a heap of infor but a search is worth it.

Another thing to add for a while, because of the diarreah, is a Probiotic. Basically the cultures in Yogurt but alot more of them. Fastrak is my personal favorite. No perscription needed. Works great on upset tummies!

I may have found a solution to the problem!!

There is a little doggie bakery that some of our boxer friends go to that makes home made doggie food, all natural no fillers everything I was looking for at almost the same cost as the Iams! Dozer and angel (other boxers) seem to love their food and according to their mom and dad not only do they eat less but they poop less, have less gass, frimer stools, and their coats have thickened up quite a bit. Plus this food has all the fruits and vegetables tyson hates hidden in quite a clever manner! :) we are going to begin weaning Them off the Iams for good and hopefully on to this food that is local to the sacramento area called wellness!?! It seems to have had good results with other boxers! thanks for all the info and We will keep you updated!!! ALSO ! we slowed down on the PB thanks for the advice! I only hope that my desperate attempts to help my little ones won't cause more discomfort than they have allready endured!
